Another day for the young Provisional Hero as Mob awoke from his sleep.
*yyyaaaawwwnn* "Mann finally I had a day away to myself yesterday. Between patrolling and making sure there ain't any villains on my ass has proven to be a lot."
"The road to strength and the protection of others is a long one boy, and since you have taken your oath to protect others you must abide by it. Plus, a whole family with deep underground connections is trying to kill You! You are far too weak to feel comfortable!", said a voice in his head.
"I get it, daaammnn", as Mob saw a note on his desk from his mentor Professor Dupe.
"Hello Shigeo. Come meet me at my office."
Mob walked to his Professor's office and greeted her. "Shigeo the reason I asked you here is because a couple of colleagues of mine at the Horizon college asked me to find a suitable sparring partner for one of their students. Apparently, he is new to the school however he is acclimating to the top ranks easily. The spar match will be in the next three days. But before you go to spar, let’s start you off with a warm up today.” “Warming up 3 three days before a spar match?” “Well yes, your warm up will consist of flying to Horizon college with your quirk. Have fun!”
A helicopter blade slices through the air inches away from Goro's face, filling his nostrils with the smell of burning metal. The young hero doesn't have time to process this, however, as a ball of flame unfurls in his direction.
Goro leaps onto a neighboring rooftop and tumbles around a smoldering chunk of engine. Today was supposed to be his day off, but when he saw a news chopper careening out of control above the city, he couldn't just stand by like a common pedestrian.
As he pulled clear of the wreckage, the young man would see that the ejected pilot floats high above the rooftops from a parachute—one that is crawling with licks of flame. It won't be long before the parachute burns through and the pilot drops hundreds of stories to his death, it was time to be a hero.
Sprinting across the building at high speeds Goro would aim himself towards the the pilots trajectory before seemingly dropping through the ground itself, his permeation quirk allowed Goro to slip through everything but robbed him of his senses. As the familiar wave of falling in to the void filled his whole body, Goro would release the quirk having angled his trajectory prior to falling.
Ejecting violently from the ground Goro would fly through the air grabbing the pilot and tucking himself around the man crashing through a window as he shielded the man with his body. Standing victorious Goro looked around. Confirming the safety of the pilot the hero saw he was inside an office building. Waving to the people he said not to worry. However the screams of the women terrified him.
Looking down Goro saw he was naked, covering his modesty in shock he yelled sorry as his eyes burst open. Laying awake in his bed. Great that's just what he needed the man thought. More naked heroic nightmares.
"Well I have a test today, suppose I better get up and ready."
Goro said as he flipped his phone over looking at the screen to check the time before switching to his music application and heading to the shower.
It took a whole three days for Mob to fly from New York to California, as he had to stop briefly to be at different hotels, restaurants, and places to use the restroom. Luckily, since Mob worked for Streetz they were able to cover most of his travel fees for the full round trip however he was tasked with finding the appropriate places, which he didn’t know about at all. He took no time to research the best hotels for him so he often ended up going to 3-star hotels along with just eating fast food.
“Man, it says we got about 5 more miles left, but it is taking super long.” “Boy focus your about to finally get to your destination. Your path to strength lies ahead.”
“Ah, here it is!”
Mob saw in the distance a huge university that looked beautiful. As he stepped into the school grounds, he was greeted by a teacher or educator.
“Hello, your mentor Professor Dupe informed me that you will be sparring against one of our members so that you all can both obtain battle experience, we needed someone suitable from another top ranked school that would be able to effectively provide a challenge to some of our stronger heroes. Thank you for coming here and I’ll show you to the sparring room.”
Hot water cascaded across the man's body as steam rose throughout the bathroom, the heat felt invigorating and refreshing as it quite literally washed away the remnants of his sleep like stupor.
Having washed his hair and body Goro would step from the shower, his eyes stinging after some unfortunately misplaced shampoo entered them. No more tears they said, yeah right. Those companies were just as bad as the criminals on the news goro thought to himself. They just pay better.
Pushing the thoughts to the back of his mind goro scanned the room, everything was meticulous despite his apparent scatter brained nature, turns out the young man was actually very organised when he wasn't rushing around and had the time to prepare. Drying himself off he would continue his regime of grooming.
In regards to the process it had all became rather autonomous for the young man, it allowed his mind to wander as he continues to prepare. Deodorant on the under arms, he wondered exactly what was the nature of this special task. A comb slid through his hair brushing it backwards and clear of his eyes. Why would he of all people be picked for such a task.
He was a new student but it seemed interest had been taken in him, Goro only hoped this had nothing to do with his father. That would be pretty unacceptable. His uniform slid over his body, socks and shoes on now.
Mob stared in front of his mirror with anticipation and slight nervousness. He was inside a bathroom located beside the sparring area where he could freshen up and relax.
“Ok Mob, you can do this. It’s another fight like every other, right? Haha!”
“Boy what are you so nervous about? Are you scared to fight?”
“No man, it’s not that. It’s just that I forgot Tatsumaki and I were supposed to have our anniversary two day ago!”
Mob checked his Streetz I-phone 13 text from Tatsumaki
“Mob you inconsiderate weak ass peasant, did you forget the day that you met this queen? Your lucky I heard from your instructor that you were sent away on official Dawn University business or else so physic power in your arsenal would have saved you from me. Finish up over there and return to me within 3 days or else you will have hell to pay for! I will fly my ass over there and if I have to do that it will be your ass. Do NOT try me.”
Mob carefully applied his shaking fingers to his phone and texted, “Don’t worry I’ll be done and get home in a jiffy! There will be no need for you to come here.”
Mob calmed down, freed his mid from his thoughts, and waited in the sparring room for his opponent.
Time to get this show on the road, akechi thought to himself as he stepped towards the gymnasium area. The sun was hanging in the sky it was getting closer to midday now, his professor rushed over hurriedly.
"You were almost late young man! That is not how you behave when other schools are here!"
"Sorry professor that wasn't my intention, I guess I just got a little lost."
The young man smiled disarmingly, eroding the tension in the air almost instantly. He was new to the school after all and it was a good excuse, akechi was also a very charismatic and charming young man which lends to his situation management.
Akechi would continue to smile until the professor told him to prepare and report to the training location. Apparently a student from the new York area was sent here to take part in a little inter school training. Usually it was just a little fun spar but akechi knew that the teachers of both schools would no doubt use this as bragging rights.
With this in mind goro bowed humbly, proud to have been selected to represent his school so soon. They must all have high expectations of him and though the pressure was somewhat overwhelming the young student of horizon college would try his absolute best to raise to the challenge.
Mob waited another few minutes until the proctor arrived with someone accompanying him. The man was interestingly dressed as if he was going to some private meeting or party. The clothing attire consisted of a semi royal/professional suit met with gold striped buttons and red golden pieces of cloth around the neck, chest, and wrist area. He also had some type of mask on which appeared to be reminiscent of the plague doctors of the 14th century or a bird mask.
“Well this dude looks interesting, look at his mask!”, Mob thought inside his head
“Stop staring in awe boy! You must consider all possibilities of this mask. Maybe it’s related to something. You have to take notice of everything from your opponent.”, a voice in his head said.
“Orrrr maybe it is just a fashion statement. Sheesh, why everything gotta be battle related bro.”, Mob thought inside his head
“Wassup bro, my name is Mob. Nice to meet another fellow hero for a good spar.”, extending his hand for a handshake.
After shaking hands with the sparring partner, Mob and the classmate would start 8 meters away from each other per the order of the teacher and begin. To start off the fight, would activate his freeform telekinetic releasing his psionic energy and emit his dome around himself.
Agreeing to shake hands with the strange man, Akechi would prepare himself for combat. His analytical skills were showcased to only himself as he walked back to the starting line. His eyes taking in every angle of the area, as well as the opponents body.
Akechi knew a considerable amount about fighting even if he thought of it as a last resort, what his mind couldn't solve his body would finish. But this was a sparring match and he didn't have many options to talk his way clear. Focusing on the opponents centre line Akechi would adopt a traditional combat sambo stance.
Akechi would remember what he was taught as he stared down the centre line hovering just off it's centre. The attack line is created by linear movement between you and your opponent, and allows your opponent to attack more effectively. It's a general principle, of all martial arts. It's biomechanics, a vector. When your opponent moves towards you, it's like he is moving along a line aiming at you.
So when faced with an attacking adversary, stay slightly to one side of the attack line, move back and forth across the attack line, or employ circular motion to thwart his advances. If you have the opening to initiate the move and use your momentum to knock your adversary off balance, try to stay on the attack line in order to focus your power in the direction of your attack.
With all of this in mind, Akechi would begin advancing slowly across the centre line stepping off it and over it as he pressed forward, making his movement look like a zig zag to an untrained opponent. This was mostly to determine his opponents awareness of close quarters combat without engaging him hurriedly.
Mob stood within his dome surrounding him as he took in all of his surroundings and preparing himself for the fight exhaling a deep breath. Facing the opponent, he would be ready for any indication of signs or signals for him to react to. Of course, Mob did not know if this man had a quirk or what it could be, but he would attempt to be ready for anything that could happen. In his training with his Professor, he was reminded of evaluating the situation and quickly suppressing it. He was excited to further test out his newly improved telekinetic technique, which allowed him to instantly manipulate whatever was in his dome.
“Man, this is going to be cool.”, Mob thought to himself.
Mob watched as the man took some form of stance and then advance towards Mob in what appeared to be a zig-zagging motion. Mob didn’t know what to think of it. Was it that the opponent was the type to get close? Or could the motion serve as a feint or trigger of some kind? Anyways Mob would try to test some things. “Let’s see how you like this.”
Tracking the movement of his opponent, Mob would lift some of the earth from the ground in his dome in 2 small 0.5 m circular shapes aimed to strike the opponent in their stomach from 1 meter away from the opponent should the opponent still be in Mob’s dome by raising his left hand. This was mainly Mob’s way of testing his opponent by striking them and seeing how they would react.
Akechi would watch his opponents centre line as he advanced in the zig zag motion. His opponent didn't seem to react to his motions. Probably not a trained martial artist. Though akechi didn't like to make assumptions they were vital as long as they were educated.
Moving ever closer to the adversary akechi would keep his guard up since he was in some kind of dome probably related to the opponents quirk although it could be some form of equipment. The students from dawn were notoriously tech savvy from what akechi had heard.
Akechi didn't have to wait long before his opponents actions revealed themselves as the ground shuddered and trembled lumps of earth were yanked from the ground hanging in the air. They weren't tremendous in size per say akechi noted. But they were considerably large chunks of earth. This leaves a couple of possibilities either the users quirk involved earth manipulation or perhaps it was some kind of magnetism or tactile telekinesis. This would require further study.
However at the moment the most important thing was his own personal protection. His stance locked and tight akechi would follow the same zig zag pattern and at the last second he would step twice to the left and deliver a powerful backhand strike using his forearm to knock one of the rocks in to the other and out of his path leaving him unharmed. Before advancing again towards the man.
As he moved closer akechi coiled his legs adopting a slightly lower stance, moving himself in from his left to the centre line and throwing a jab with his left hand across the opponents centre line aimed to strike his cheek. Akechi would hold back on the power as to not deliver serious injury as he had no idea how tough this fellow student was and didn't want to risk injuring him badly yet.
The man with his zig zagging motion moved and with a forceful blow knocked one of Mob’s rocks into the other destroying them both as he advanced.
Mob would watch as his opponent closed in on him. It was interesting viewing the opponent’s steadfast motion towards Mob even though there was a dome clearly around them. The opponent could’ve possibly known of Mob’s technique, not notice it, or notice it and did not care.
If it was the third option, then possibly either the opponent had no other option but to follow the same movements, or it could mean that they were confident that they had some way or tool out of it. If it was the latter option, then Mob was determined in figuring out what that thing was. Sure, it might reveal some secrets about his quirk but he did not care. If the man did not have the strength the physically break the bind or tools necessary to escape this bind, Mob could use a combination of techniques to deliver significant amounts of damage to the opponent.
As soon as the opponent came within 2 meters of Mob he would point at the man with his left index finger to telekinetically bind him stopping all his physical movement followed by simultaneously jumping back to double the distance between him and his pursuer.
This was one of Mob's strongest binds, requiring a lot of to strength escape out of. Mob knew what to do if the man remained in the bind and was prepared to react if it didn't work.
Akechi moved in towards the opponent but as he got closer he suddenly saw the man raise his hand, before the young heroes entire body seized in place. Surprised by this turn of events akechi struggled momentarily and finding no success, however he took the time to determine the best course of action and analyse what he knew.
The adversary of akechi seemed to not in fact control the earth as akechi was being held in stasis in the air. It couldn't be a paralysis quirk since he earlier used it to lift the ground. It was beginning to seem more like tactile telekinesis or perhaps electromagnetism of some sort. Though akechi was wearing very little metal so that seemed unlikely, either way it gave akechi some time to plan the trajectory for what came next.
Akechi didn't really like his quirk, he prides himself on always being in control of his situations. Always having perfect awareness and essentially having his wits about him. This really made his quirk ironic when you considered the negative effects. When used in it's complete version the quirk permeation literally robbed akechi of his senses. Everything fell through his body, light, sound, everything.
Wishing to avoid using this ability for as long as possible akechi would speak to his adversary, appealing to his spirit of competition hopefully. But even if this didn't work it was giving akechi the time he needed to map his surroundings and perhaps learn more about the man's durability before attempting to strike him.
"Hey hey c'mon now buddy! Don't you want to have a fair fight with none of this quirk stuff?"
It seems the telekinetic bind worked, and Mob was using a strong bind. Of the only people who embarrassed Mob’s strong binds was Mob’s own professor Dupe, who moved unhindered with her superior strength. Mob also considered the words of his opponent, but Mob did not want to give any chances to his opponent. Mob personally thought that if the opponent truly wished to fight without quirks or had the pride to fight without quirks in a highly acclaimed school like Horizon, Mob fighting without his quirk would just be to Mob’s disadvantage. Plus, when Mob first established the field or sent rocks at the opponent, he didn’t say anything at that time about quirk stuff so why now? Why not say something about quirks in the beginning? Mob could think of numerous possibilities to this but it did not matter. Mob thought that either this person possibly had a quirk that he didn't want to use for whatever reason, he didn’t have a quirk, or his quirk couldn’t do anything to Mob in the situation given. All of these possibilities could be advantageous to Mob, so he would speak.
“Nah bro. Regardless how people fight it would be disrespect for both of us if we were fighting and not taking this fight serious. This sparring match is supposed to mimic real battle situations and I don’t know what villains you have faced, but the ones I have faced are relentless and cunning. So just as I would not mess around in a fight I hope you won’t either.”
While holding his pointed bind on his opponent Mob would summon four rocks the size of square floor tiles a foot away from the opponent by opening his right hand. With one in each cardinal direction of the opponent he would close his hand to strike the opponent's body at all sides to deliver damage.
Akechi would remain inside the binding ability. It seemed the young man would be unwilling to release the ability and fight him hand to hand. That quite probably answers the questions regarding his physical skills.
The young hero really did not like using his quirk but it seemed he may have to, the other students ability seemed rather impressive and akechi didn't believe he could physically break free from the bind. He sighed deeply as the adversary spoke on.
Oh well, I guess it can't be avoided any longer. Akechi thought as he calculated the distance to the opponent, mapping his trajectory and determining the best area to eject. His goal would be to eject behind the enemy and follow up with a roundhouse kick. By merging fully with the ground on the correct angle and immediately deactivating his quirk. This would cause akechi to eject from the ground instantly, appearing behind the other student. Freed from the binding akechi would swing his dominant right leg in a vicious arc.
The sweeping motion of the kick would be aimed at the head of the opponent angled in a way to connect with the adversary's ear using akechi shin. While the foot itself would hit the side of the man's nose, the damage would be fairly significant in a superficial way potentially causing a sense of vertigo or a perforated ear drum and broken nose. It would entirely depend on the durability of his young opponent, assuming the blow even landed of course. Though akechi imagined it would be hard to react to a blindside attack.
Mob looked intently on his opponent. Through doing this bind, Mob believed it was an important factor that decided the match since most of his opponents couldn’t escape it. Although he was privately practicing methods to prepare for whenever an opponent could escape it, he was nowhere near ready to use them now. Besides, he had access to more mental abilities that would also serve as an option that he would be able to do should his telekinesis not work but Mob only had few of those techniques.
As soon as Mob was about to send those attacks out Mob watched as his bind was rendered ineffective as the man suddenly fell out of his grasp and into the ground. It surprised Mob because as far as he knew he never felt the opponent physically break his bind, it was as if Mob's bind never there. Even when Mob faced his teacher he could feel as his bind was easily broken but this was not the case, Mob slightly wondered if it even was real or if it was an illusion. Since he could not see his opponent he could not prepare for any counterattacks, which meant his only reaction was to defend. But how to defend against an attack of unknown origin? Mob’s answer was to immediately channel his quirk and spawn his orbital field shield of debris which would at least provide some all-around defense against an attack that could come from anywhere.
Mob then heard and felt an impact behind him which prompted him to look over his shoulder and see that the student had appeared behind him. It astonished Mob. In an instant that man had fell into the earth and then instantly appeared behind Mob? This seemed to weird to be technology so it could possibly be a quirk of some sort. Seeing as the man could fall and reappear Mob decided to test if it could work in the air as well or if it was an illusion of some sort.
Mob would fly up in a backwards diagonal angle once again creating his orbital field shield and end up 10 meters in the air.
“Now we’re getting somewhere, and you were talking about not using quirk stuff but it seems you have a cool one bro!”
