As the sun began to rise in south-central Japan, Minato Namikaze packed the last of his bags into the back seat of his 2017 White Toyota Camry and gently closed the left-side door. Despite the past week of preparation and goodbyes, Minato was still having trouble accepting his departure from the land of the Rising Sun in pursuit of an education at Dawn University. The solemn nature of his travel was met with contrastingly beautiful scenery, as the prime time for blooming cherry blossoms was looming over the southern portion of the nation. Tokyo at this time of year was truly beautiful, and the thought of leaving such a scene behind was challenging at best.
Still, Minato climbed into the front seat of his car and waited for his girlfriend, Kushina, to join him on the passenger's side. The plan for this trip was for the two of them to drive east of Tokyo to the Narita International Airport and have Minato fly out to Los Angeles by himself. From LAX, Minato would rest for two days and take a second flight to the John F. Kennedy Airport near Queens, New York. By the time he managed to get there, his car would be transported to New York as well and he could begin to get accustomed to life in the Big Apple. The thought of so much traveling in such a short amount of time did scare him, even though he and his clan had been prepping for months. There were so many opportunities for something to go wrong that it made Minato's head spin.
"Ready to go?" A sweet voice called out, startling him out of his thoughts. Turning his head, he saw Kushina Uzumaki smiling at him through the open passenger side door, oblivious to the level of concern bubbling up inside of him. Minato fixed his composure and looked directly at Kushina.
"Yeah, I think I am."
Kushina slid to Minato's left side and closed the door, signaling the Fourth Hokage to turn on the car and back out of his driveway. He was in no rush to leave the country just yet, and instead of making a hasty drive to Narita International, Minato simply rolled down his windows and let the cool wind brush against his face, driving down the countryside in a sight-seeing manner. The flight from Japan to America was painstakingly long, but overall, well worth the wait. Minato finally landed in the John F. Kennedy International Airport a few days after leaving Japan, and upon touching down on the artificially lit runway, he felt his entire body go from extremely tensed to surprisingly relaxed. The transition into America was, for the most part, over, and Minato could get accustomed to his new life in New York step by step. The Namikaze stepped off of his flight along with the remainder of the native population flying to Northeast America and entered his terminal. It took a while for everything to get sorted out, but once his bags were in order, Minato finally allowed himself to stop and rest.
Realizing that a few hours between different sides of the country left him both parched and hungry, the Hokage decided to sit down and find some food in Terminal Four. Even though he was told that establishments in America were inferior to many other first world nations, he wasn't really concerned about the taste and simply wanted something to eat and drink. As he walked through the immediate area, he looked at all the potential shops he could choose from. Bakeries, wings, chocolates, donuts, burgers, and pizza all fell within his line of sight. The area was so enthralling that he hadn't even noticed the child that had been following him through the terminal.
The Namikaze finally settled on one of the two Shake Shacks located near Gate B23, surprised to see a child no older than five standing close to him. He turned his head left and right, looking to see if anyone was supervising the child, but there was no discernable parent nearby.
"Two ShackBurgers with fries and two Fifty/Fifty's, please," Minato asked, placing his order. After a few minutes, he received his food and went to sit down with his bags near one of the terminal's seating areas, only to be followed by the child from earlier. As expected, it seemed like he had no idea where his guardians were and was hoping Minato would help him. As a way to break the ice between the two, Minato gave him one of the two meals he had ordered.
"You doing alright there, bud?" The Hokage began, slowly pulling a fry from its small tray. The child looked at him wearily, as if he had something he wanted to say but was unsure of if he should say it or not.
"You don't have to be afraid of me, you know," Minato continued. "It doesn't seem like your parents are with you. Do you know where they are?"
The child shook his head. It seemed like he was as lost as Minato thought he was.
"Where did you last see them?"
The child looked towards the ground, completely avoiding eye contact with the Namikaze. It seemed like he was asking the child to remember too much in the chaos of the airport.
"Have you talked to Airport Security yet?"
He shook his head again.
"Do you think we could go to them together and see if they know?"
Seemingly defeated, the child shook his head yes and placed his untouched food into the small paper bag Minato had given him, clenching the top tightly like it was the last thing he had on him. The two of them got up, Minato putting his food away in a similar fashion, and walked over to the security checkpoint. As they moved, the child kept looking up towards Minato, seemingly lost in some aspect of his appearance.
"Y-you have really cool hair!" The child suddenly blurted out, almost startling Minato. The expression on his face shifted from uncertainty to pure excitement after making the unexpected statement.
"I appreciate that. Thank you," Minato replied, turning his attention back towards the closest Security Guard. After approaching the man, Minato began to give out information and ask about the whereabouts of the child's parents. As it turned out, the child's parents were also looking for him, albeit in a completely different terminal. The Security Guard turned around and began to lead the two of them in the right direction.
