Hero Objectives: Patrol the District During the Day
Location: An area around Chinatown(during the one year timeskip)
Participants: Hiku and Mob
*cue this music*
It was a bustling day around the city and Mob was walking around with a fellow hero newcomer. It was a warm-breezy day and the weather felt great! However, Mob felt tired.
“What’s wrong with you boy?”, the voice in Mob’s head said. “I feel like I haven’t gotten a break yet. All this training with Professor Dupe has been so challenging. And what’s more now she’s assigned me a mission to patrol a district! Sheesh.”, Mob thought to himself
*flashback* “Shigeo, today you’re going to patrol an area around Chinatown. Crime is moderate to little there, no more than petty thieves so you should be able to handle yourself along with a partner. He’s new to the school, so show him the Dawn University spirit!”, she said with a warm smile. *back to the current time*
“Boy, your teacher is letting you get some experience in the field, any experience is worth it so treasure it”
*Sigh*
Mob looked at the boy next to him, he had a very relaxed demeanor and seemed very chill. Mob decided to introduce himself in a chill demeanor as they were walking through the area.
“Wassup bro. I forgot to introduce myself. My real name’s Shigeo, but most people call me 808 or Mob. Feel free to call me any of those names. It’s nice to work with a fellow student. What your name?”
So! He got another assignment finally, huh? He would say it was about time but that wouldn't be a very hero-thing to say, would it? He had been given another patrol assignment from the teach himself, his objective to walk around china-town with this other guy and take care of any unsavories they were to come across. Very well, nothing too difficult.
Once the two of them got out there, Hiku was content to report that the weather was respectable and the air as clean as city-air could be. There wasn't much trash lining the roads, not many homeless people dotting the corners and the streets themselves were relatively clean by his estimation. That made his experience here, with his breathing quirk, far more enjoyable. Nothing worse than breathing tainted air... The pair walked down China-town's streets at a casual pace, taking their time as they seemingly waited for trouble to find them. Bunch of nobodies walking alone? That was sure to attract attention from whatever lurked in the shadows. Bait and trap. Neither of them had said much to one another for the first couple minutes. simply taking to their roles like good little heroes. Hiku had his hands tucked in his hoodie pockets, his eyebrow cocked at the occasional person that passed as if to say 'How you doin'?' He was content with the quiet, how calming it was to listen to the breeze and the cooing of pigeons as they enjoyed their human-made habitat. Deceptive as it may have been, it was at least trying to put on the front of peace.
It was then that his partner decided to speak up, apparently realizing that both of them had gone unintroduced! Hiku smirked at that assessment, then his smirk grew into a grin as the boy named off his nick-names. 808? Mob? He had to wonder what he'd done to earn such... original titles. Perhaps they were a clue to his quirk... somehow. Perhaps Mob eluded to some kind of clone-power or 808 had something to do with machines...? He had no clue.. Maybe they'd get lucky and find out.
"Yeah... uh... Name's Hiku. Jumped on the hero-train just recently. Nice to meet you, bro." He held out his fist for the boy to bump, keeping the casual air of their mission going. "Nice day, huh? Looks like people finally learned to keep this place tidy." There was a slight edge in his voice, a clear sign of annoyance towards those that showed little care for their waste. Some of the places he had to walk through... He swore, the garbage-men never visited. Hiku let out a light yawn, still waking up even though it was... like... in the afternoon. The sun blazed down upon them from it's highest point in the sky, Hiku's quirk acting as an internal air-conditioner that kept him cool despite his heavy outfit... Ah, the practicality.
"So, uh, 'Mob', what do you think the odds are this'll be more than just a walk?" He asked, giving him a cocked eyebrow of his own. "Because... anyplace this nice probably holds the bigger baddies. Video-game logic."
"I'm a Hero by trade so naturally, your safety is my primary concern. However, do not mistake my job for personal attachment." -Hiku
The dude beside Mob put his hand in a fist so as to do a fist bump, to which Mob obliged.
"Dude is chill, signs of interesting partner", Mob thought to himself
"Your too naive boy, you've only had one exchange with him and you already think y'all are best friends?"
("Nice day, huh? Looks like people finally learned to keep this place tidy.")
"It seems this one is considerate of his environment. Much like your teacher boy."
"Please... don't remind me ugggh", Mob thought to himself
("So, uh, 'Mob', what do you think the odds are this'll be more than just a walk? Because... anyplace this nice probably holds the bigger baddies. Video-game logic.")
"Yooo. You are so right. Video game logic is supreme."
"Damn he even plays video games? This patrol is gonna be lit", Mob thought to himself
Mob smile switched to slight anguish.
"Pfft. Don't Jinx us, I've had a long week and I don't need anymore problems haha." "ARRAAHHHGGG!!!" "Damn you jinxed us. Let's hope the video game Gods have mercy on our soul."
Mob and Hiku looked down the alleyway to their right to find a bloodied man staring in the direction of a forest. They rushed towards him. As soon as they saw the man, things became serious and Mob and Hiku acted accordingly. "C-curse you. You took from me", the man said staring blankly at the forest. "We need to take this man to get some medical help."
Hiku smirked lightly as... "Mob" bumped his fist, then agreed whole heartedly with his video-game comment! Beyond that, though, he didn't seem to be much for conversation. In fact, beyond this little interaction, the guy seemed content to stay in his head. Meh. Whatever worked for him, he supposed. He was kinda lax when it came to such things. Why bother harassing somebody over something so trivial, right? Wasn't like he had much more to say. The two of them made their way a little farther down the street until a loud cry for help stopped them dead! WELL! WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT! He was right! Couldn't have a nice quiet day for long, could they?
Hiku burst into a sprint with his associate right behind, following the noise of agonized... something to an alley way, to spot a wounded man clawing weakly for a forest that... really shouldn't be there in the middle of town! In fact, Hiku was so perplexed by this, he very nearly completely forgot about the dying man on the floor by his feet! Something was very clearly wrong here. There was NO SUCH THING as a forest in the middle of a city! What kind of insanity WAS this...? Hiku could've just stood there for literal hours, contemplating the nature of this mysterious forest but he simply didn't have the time. Rather, the man at his feet didn't have the time by the way he acted. Despite his movements getting weaker and weaker, the blood on him didn't seem increase or... anything that had to do with typical wounds. In fact...
Before he could continue this thought, "Mob" made the deathly obvious observation that this guy needed help! Yeah. go figure. With a heavy sigh, the young hero-in-training whipped out his cellphone and dialed for an ambulance because god knows he couldn't carry that guy miles to the nearest hospital.
"Right..." He muttered as the operator picked up.
______________
Hiku and "Mob" joined the man in his ride to the hospital, seeing as they knew nothing about the circumstances surrounding his injury nor the nature of his wounds. Together, they had come to the consensus that they had to do some detective work to catch they guy that'd done this. As they waited in the room for waiting, The lobby, Hiku went over the details in his mind. The man was bloody but not bleeding... He had a box-cutter thing covered in the same blood and there was a random forest growing out of the town through which an alley way could be seen. What was stranger, though, was that most trees taller than the buildings in china-town. They should tower over them and yet... The forest he saw through the alley didn't even reach over the roof-tops... Something was very wrong here and the first thing Hiku thought of was a quirk.
A Nurse finally poked her head in, telling them that it was okay to visit now. When Hiku inquired as to the nature of his injuries, the nurse remarked that he didn't have a scratch on him... Specifically, the blood they found on him wasn't his nor was it the blood on his box-cutter knife. It simply didn't match the blood-type among other factors. Hiku narrowed his eyes thoughtfully at that... What did THAT even mean? Was he attacked or was he the attacker? And what was that forest? There were so many questions and very few answers... The forest was the only clue they really had and even that just hid more questions! Before they went in, the nurse stopped the two heroes one more time, warning that the man was... unstable. Despite the lack of wounds on his person, the brain-waves they picked up were so erratic and wild, it was like he was suffering from a brain-dysfunction! Again, no damage! They had him slowly coming down off the drugs for now but even so... the things those waves suggested were the stuff of nightmares according to this medical professional.
"It's a Quirk." Hiku concluded out loud, crossing his arms. The nurse looked at him oddly. "Nothing. Thanks." With that... the two of them went inside. It was a small room, a bed, a bathroom, a chair off in the corner for any loved ones to stay with their wounded family. There was none. Just them. Kinda sad, really. He knew his mother would be here in a flash if he wounded. Literally a flash. Back to the patient, he was passed out in the bed, unmoving with the exception of his eyes... Even from here, across the room, the young student could see his eyes flicking all around under his lids. Hiku quietly shifted to his bed-side, his eyes catching very subtle movements as the drugs that were keeping him suppressed slowly began to wear off. twitches of the fingers here, a shift of an arm there, but all of them were quick.. jerky... like his nerves were being overflowed with electricity. Slowly the man's eyes began to flutter open, bloodshot and wild even now just coming off the high. Hiku could tell... he was not happy to be awake...
"Hey..." The hero murmered, trying to be as gentle as he could with this near-rabid patient. "We found you in-"
Suddenly his wild eyes LOCKED onto Hiku's his sharp, needle-like gaze freezing him dead! He... couldn't move... It was like staring into the eyes of a predator... in an instant, he felt the man's fingers SHOOT up into his hoodie collar, dragging him down closer to his face! His maw opened like the creaking hinges of a rusted metal door, revealing gnarled yellow teeth, edged only by the serrated nature of someone who took little care for them. His gums were blackened and rotted and when Hiku glanced up to look at him again... Those eyes were no longer human... Milky white... His skin starting to rot... He.... What WAS HAPPENING! The hero's skin DANCED with fear as this patient mutated before his eyes, growing uglier and more monstrous by the second!
"Get the DOC!" Hiku commanded, trying to wrench himself away from the man! His grip... it was unreal... Once Mob disappeared to find someone... ANYONE, The creature pulled him closer though not by lack of resistance. Hiku tried to pull himself away, only succeeding in ripping up his hoodie as the creature leaned up near his ear, whispering in a voice that did not belong to anything remotely human:
"The Fooooressssssst....."It hissed, its breath as rotten and twisted as it was. "The Forest isssss...."
It was then the medical professionals arrived and like that he was released! Hiku fell away, gasping for breath, the patient back down in his bed as if he didn't even move! His hoodie? Undamaged...
"W-what the..." he whispered, throwing himself to the other end of the room, pressing himself as tightly against the wall as he POSSIBLY could! "...I... Wha.... He...."
Hiku and Mob rushed as fast as they could towards to the hospital with the injured man. Mob did not notice anything out of the ordinary since he was rushing through his inner voice would talk to him. “Boy you should be chasing after the opponent, what are you doing saving a dying man?”
“You shut up! He will survive!”
After what felt like an hour of waiting, the nurse poked her head in the waiting room telling him that it’s okay to visit now. The nurse explained that he didn't have a scratch on him... Specifically, the blood they found on him wasn't his nor was it the blood on his box-cutter knife. It simply didn't match the blood-type among other factors.
“What could that mean boy? Maybe you should read his mind.”
“Your right. That might be useful.”
Before going however, the nurse war Mob and Hiku that the man was unstable, and to be careful and handle the situation with patience.
“On second thought I won’t read his mind now, I won’t be able to get any useful information. I might have to go back to the forest with Hiku again.”
Hiku seemed to come into a solution a boldly exclaimed “It’s a Quirk”
That could be very true, a quirk could have caused the blood to appear to take them off the assailant’s trail, but Mob was still not sure. Is it a quirk related around blood or something else entirely? Mob and Hiku entered the room. It was a small room, a bed, a bathroom, a chair off in the corner with the patient in bed passed out with eyes flickering under the eyelids. It seems the man was in deep REM sleep however his sleep paralysis was not kicking in as he was twitching all around.
Hiku approached the man’s bedside and spoke to the man saying “Hey…we found you in the- “
Suddenly the man jolted at Hiku staring at him and gripping the chest of Hiku like a rabid animal. Hiku urgently beckoned Mob to go contact the nurse in charge.
“Boy, this rabid animal must be put down! Get him off your partner and destroy his mind!”
“No, we must handle this with care. I got to find the nurse.”
Mob rushed and found the nurse, it seemed she was in a trance.
“Hello miss…Hello?”
The nurse seemed in a trance standing around in the room staring at a corner, so Mob could not witness her face. It seemed that she was talking to herself under a mumbled breath, so Mob could not hear anything, although he did know the she was speaking rapidly, and her body was also twitching. “Boy, I don’t know what is but stay back and try to wake her up.”
Mob stood back activated his free form telekinetic and went ahead and lightly shook the lady’s body shaking her out of her seeming trance. “Wha-What happenened? What is going on? Is the patient alright?”
“No maam. We need your help I believe he is assaulting my teammate.”
The nurse followed Mob and they once again arrived at the room with Hiku backed against the wall and the patient seemed as if he had not moved at all.
“Hiku…What?”
“Don’t. Everything’s fine. Mind Yourself. We can get some stuff ready and then let’s head out to the forest.”
“My thoughts exactly. Whatever is happening there we can probably find answers about it soon.”
"Be careful boy. Things don't seem as they should be in this situation."
Mob felt wary however because as he looked into Hiku's eyes, it looked weird. Mob was worried about his fellow classmate.
