This was finally the end. The climax that Ah Gou had foresaw in the first place was finally revealing itself. With Eli scrambling for his life, the loosen cement and metal bars successfully toppled over him while he was restricted by the gravity and earthen ruptures. This left him laying below the rubble while Ah Gou finally relaxes himself and lets off a small, nearly soundless sigh before scoffing at the fact that he lost an entire eye. Wiping the blood from his face using the back of his hand, Ah Gou begins walking towards the "defeated" hero in training as he spoke out loud.
"And here you thought you were somw sort of hero, when you didn't even know the true gravity of the situation. Too bad there's no second chances with these types of things. I'll remember you, Eli..."
With this said, Ah Gou stopped a few meters away from a nearby exit before activating his quirk once more. His palm was pointed at the roof before squeezing as if he was crushing something in his hand; Causing a mass shift in the gravities effects on the area. Using the power of his monochrome, Ah gou pulled down the entire roof over Eli, leaving it to fall and crush him altogether, leaving his lifeless body in an "accidental" death scene.
Darkness fell quickly as Eli was entombed by debris; truly Ah Gou meant to bury him and the children alive with the rubble of the construction site. Eli's back was battered with each falling slab of concrete, every metal beam inched him further to the ground and within distance of compressing the three of them. He began to hack and wheeze, spattering blood onto the pavement below as the damage Ah Gou had inflicted prior finally caught up with his weakened state. The two boys under his protection straddled a line between sobbing uncontrollably and watching Eli with earnest resolution. "Don't worry, I won't let him hurt yo- Agh!"
Eli was interrupted mid sentence by what he could only assume was the total collapse of the building onto his back. An immense weight was added to his already intolerable struggle; Eli couldn't help but wonder how a person could be so cruel to punish innocents in such a horrific way. Eli's legs and arms writhed and jerked beneath the load as his muscles grew tired from prolonged use. In a moment such as this, his mind would race to finalize the story of Eli Thomas, encompassing all that he had experienced in life; each and every person Eli had grown close to, every warm heart he had touched or been touched by, and all of his fondest memories flooded his thought all in a single flash. Following that blinding light, darkness.
"Not... YET!"
Something within Eli stirred, something monumental, powerful, arcane. Strength beyond his wildest expectations burst into his body as a flame spreading through gasoline. The blood rushing to his ears would prevent him from hearing the sound of his own screams- which incidentally must have been frightening to the children he was guarding- as he twisted his body to position himself. A voice within his very being spoke to him, ensured Eli that he would not allow the civilians to perish today; Eli braced the coffin of stone surrounding the three of them with both of his legs crunched, as if in stance to perform a leg press. His arms spread wide, shoulders pinned to the earth, and hands outstretched on the ground beside him, Eli summoned every ounce of strength in his being to push!
Despite the limits of his own ability, Eli forcibly launched the wreckage trapping them outward, an explosion of cement, rebar, and steel expanding in each direction. The speed of the barrage sent several large chunks of refuse flying across the construction site, and a large cloud of soot and concrete granules billowed among ground zero. This agitated Eli's already weakened lungs, as he began to cough uncontrollably, expelling blood and mucus with each whoop. The children, now relatively safe from danger, reached out to touch Eli out of sympathy and gratitude. This shook him slightly, as his muscles were still tense from fighting, but he lowered his defenses to calm the children. "See? I told you I'd protect you." Eli struggled to affirm the children as he hacked and choked on his own fluids. A weary smile spread to ease their worries, the gesture about all that he was physically capable of after his grand feat.
It wasn't until this moment that Eli realized that he knew these kids. Well, he had at least met themboth before. One of the two- was this the slingshot kid?- spoke to Eli. "T-thanks mister... S-s-sorry you g-got h-hurt..." Eli couldn't help but laugh a little at his situation, the children apologizing for something they had literally nothing to do with; he immediately regretting his laughter, of course, as it shot waves of pain throughout his torso. Eli turned to pat the kid on the shoulder, and tapped the other child on the arm to gather both of their attention. "Look, I'm fine. You two should go on home now, hear? And be more careful next time yer pickin' where you are playin' at, okay?" Eli once again forced himself to smile, despite being completely drained.
His gaze followed the children as they began to wander home. Not knowing that Eli and Ah Gou were the reason for their troubles, they ambled by Ah Gou, looking upward naively at the man as they passed. The other, more shy child stopped briefly to keep staring at Ah Gou, and through his tears raised his arm to wave goodbye to the stranger. The moment gone, the two children darted off into the darkness, supposedly to find the rest of their little gang and head home. Eli wouldn't know what would happen to them for the rest of the night, for the instant they faded from view, his consciousness failed him and Eli blacked out from exhaustion.
At this point Ah Gou, even with his eye still dripping his bright crimson blood, could see the children along with Eli being crushed by the roofings that he caused to fall. Instinctively he darted towards them and tried to use his gravitational prowess to stop the wreckage from doing harm. Of course he didn't have the strength to pull this off. The amount of blood loss he had suffered was actually massive, thus his body was in a severely weakened state. His eyesight started to blur as he fell to his knees a few meters away from the tragedy....
I'm.... A god damn idiot... Maybe "I" wasn't good enough to be a hero. That's maybe why i left the academy. Because i knew i was insufficient for the jobs. I just tried to cover it up with excuses on other heroes and how they conducted their works. Now look. I've ended someone whom had a sense for heroism that i didn't. And sacrificed himself because of my ignorance...I.. I should've died -
At this point the rubble began to move a bit. Was the emotions of Ah Gou making his quirk move the material? No. He had a full grasp of his powers, and even so, he wouldn't physically be capable of using his quirk. Anyway, the shit kept moving until.... Boom! The rubble all was shot and scattered away from an epicenter, which was Eli. With the battered man uncovering and revealing the unharmed children, Ah Gou broke out into tears from his one remaining eye as he witnesses a true act of a hero. He forced himself to his feet and watched the kids be spoken to before they left. One of them stopped at Ah Gou and just stared with tears in his eyes similarly to Ah Gou himself. Ah Gou was embarrassed and shamed so ended up looking away as he spoke.
I- I'm sorry....
At this point the children left, leaving only Ah Gou and Eli; Though due to blood loss Ah Gou immediately faints...
A faint beeping stirred Eli from his slumber, nudging him gently from rest with each sound. It was strangely familiar, yet unpleasant all the same, and reminded Eli of various memories he had experienced, but nothing specific enough to recall directly. He reflexively began to sit up, realizing his body was in a prone position but was immediately greeted by a sharp pain in several parts of his body. Wincing in response, Eli laid back down and redirected his focus to simply opening his eyes and becoming more alert instead.
Blinking the blur out of his sight, Eli finally gathered a clear image as to his current location: Eli was in the hospital, again. As his senses stirred, he could once again smell the stale and sterile scent of neoprene gloves and unopened containers of bland gelatin. He groaned in pain and anxiety in tandem, his mind concocting every strange scenario that could have landed himself in this position...
Then Eli remembered Ah Gou.
A flare of anger was swept up inside of Eli's heart, rushing hot blood to his face in defiance of his bodily harm. How could he do that?! What kinda sick and twisted person picks a fight when kids are involved?! Questions flooded his thoughts, churning his memories back to that night where he fought and defended the innocents. After a brief moment to himself, Eli slowed his breathing and began to calm down. This one happening would not draw out a negative response for more than a nanosecond; Eli instead resolved to himself that he would bolster his Hero career in spite of men like Ah Gou.
There were only two threads left unfollowed after the events at the construction site, both of which Eli was never able to find definite answers to, at least not until much later. The first of which was an obvious observation: how did Eli get to the hospital? After rescuing the children, Eli was unable to continue fighting Ah Gou and lost consciousness. How was it that he was brought into the medical facilities? The second mystery was not for Eli to find out for an even longer while: Whatever happened to Ah Gou...?
Flashes of the scenes from beforehand found themselves attacking Ah Gou in the form of nightmares as he was in a deep slumber. The nightmares went on and on. He almost killed innocent children. All for what? For his vengeance against the true heroes of this world? Ah Gou was clearly misguided in his thoughts before this point, but as the nightmares continued to haunt him all he could think about was how much he regretted the way he was living.
A sharp pain in his head shocked Ah Gou into consciousness which he immediately regret also. His head was pounding as he blink himself awake and the light from the room burned his pupils. "Shit..." This was the only thing he could manage to say as he watched the nurses take off a few wires from his body. He was told about his missing eye and that his body itself was merely bruised up a bit. According to them he'd be just fine besides a sharp headache and some pain in his right eye socket. He was given medication but was also given an ankle bracelet for the authorities to keep track of his whereabouts. Apparently he was to stay in the city and appear in court in a months time. Of course, Ah Gou used this time to train his body and quirk more while also adjusting to having a single eye. In court they saw that he wasn't really a bad person, just had no guidance. The owner of the gym [See first post] was present in court and offered to let Ah Gou do community service at his place, which ended up being his "punishment" per se.... Now beimg free, and having a newer outlook on life in a few ways, Ah Gou made sure to keep the first real hero he knew in his mind as remembrance that heros truly do exist.
"Eli..." He laughed to himself as he began his daily training session.
