As the Sports Festival has been completed, the tournament participants are honored at Horizon College during a campus-wide assembly. Eli seeks to learn from his peers, while Gogo desires personal redemption; in a friendly bout of competition, who has the most to gain? Read and find out!
The general feeling in the air amidst Horizon College was one of... overwhelming apathy. Now that the Sports Festival had been completed and the excitement had come to a screeching halt, life in the school had resumed it's normal pace of drudgery and fatigue. Leagues of students could be observed throughout the campus, inside buildings and outside alike, shuffling mindlessly across grassy fields and concrete pathways alike. There were, of course, exceptions to this general feeling; several groups of students displayed signs of life, and even happiness, as they conversed with glee over classes and advancing their learning to higher levels. Such examples were certainly a minority, however, as a massive amount of dread had swept the student body; anxiety was the new normal, as the horror known as 'exams' was creeping around the corner.
Among that group of exhilarated disciples of education was Eli Thomas, finally able to partake in his first taste of training at the collegiate level. His smile grew as wide as Tennessee's river, attempting to infect passerby's faces with it's noxious optimism. Finally, I get to go to class! Reckon I'll get to learn somethin' useful for a change! Eli's thoughts flashed ahead of himself, recalling times he had out-studied his classmates in high school. Things would become boring quickly, especially when he had learned the entire year's curriculum within a single quarter. Things would be different here, where the elite gathered to become the best of the best in Hero education and training!
Eli joyfully strutted in the direction of what was to be his first class, his hands gripping the straps of a tightly drawn knapsack attached to his back, when his attention was pulled forcefully off target. A large crowd was gathering in what was referred to as 'the Quad,' a massive, open expanse covered in a grassy field that was surrounded by several of the College's main buildings. In the center was a large concrete slab, nearly 50 meters square, depressing into the ground as a type of stadium seating. Several students had already made their way into the Quad to take a seat; it seemed some sort of gathering was expected at this location.
Eli jogged across the field to flag down a fellow student politely. He saw someone travelling alone, a purple haired individual who stood out from the rest of the student body. " 'Scuse me, what is everyone gatherin' here for?" Eli inquired of the student, who turned around as he lightly tapped them on the shoulder to grant attention. This revealed to Eli that the student was a young woman. "Oh, no problem! There's going to be an assembly here to honor the tournament participants from the Festival." She responded with a bright smile and a motion to join her. "You must be a new student. I'm Jennifer, third year. Want to join me? Classes are postponed for a while for this very reason." Eli, delighted to have so easily made a friend, nodded with vigor. "Yes, thank you! I'm Eli, by the way." He returned the gesture, smiling back brightly at Jennifer as they both took a seat on the hard concrete row. Eli couldn't help but wonder what kind of ceremony or recognition the College would have for these select students. Guess I'll see shortly, he pondered, tapping his foot in anticipation.
A loud pop echoed throughout the bus, successfully drowning out the chatter for a fraction of a second, before it picked back up right after. Still upset about her tournament placing, Gogo, sat slouched over in her seat; the pale skinned girl would stare aimlessly out of the window as she replayed the events of the tournament in her head. "I could have done better!" she thought to herself over and over."Maybe if my quirk was stronger? Maybe if I was stronger? Was all my hard work for nothing? "
Gogo, for the most part, was a usually confident, and strong willed woman. However, after having such high hopes for herself and coming no where near her goal, she was shattered. Not only was her confidence shot, but she was furious. The anger building up would only increase ten fold when she had no one to place the blame on, other than herself of course. To make matters worse, the Horizon school always hosted an assembly afterwards for the tournament participants. Great! Now I've gotta see the guy who kicked my butt in the tournament.
Gogo is something wrong perhaps?
Gogo's train of thought would come to a stop as Arthur tapped her on the shoulder. While she was lost in thought, she had not being paying attention to her aggressive gum chewing. Several wrappers would form a silver ball in the palm of her hand. The area around her would be coated in a unique smell of bubblegum, and some designer perfume; the latter of which she could not pronounce as it was of a different language.
I'm fine Arthur. Just bored is all...
As if she would tell Arthur, or anyone for that matter, her problem. Apart of her felt the need to uphold her tough, confident, sarcastic demeanor. Getting all emotional after a loss would ruin her image she felt. Her pride as a woman would not let her appear weak.
Within a matter of minutes, a gaggle of students from all around the campus flooded the Quad, all taking seats and chatting as the ceremony was about to begin. Eli's new acquaintance, Jennifer, flipped her violet hair nonchalantly out of her face and turned to Eli to speak. "So did you watch any of the Sports Festival?" Eli thought it considerate of her to ask before assuming anything; his expression responded first, answering her question with a frown. "Unfortunately no, I was on a bus ride on the way here fer most of it. When I finally did get to California, I got lost and spent most of my day tryin' to find the place!" Eli threw up his hands hopelessly, changing his grimace into a halfhearted smile. Jennifer giggled at his comment, covering her laugh with a petite hand up to her face. Eli couldn't help but blush a little out of embarrassment.
A group of differently dressed students filed their way to the Quad, specifically in the exact center of the 'pit' part of the small amphitheater. There were 16 of them total, with various different student outfits and appearances, but the majority were of the East Coast Hero Academia, Dawn. Jennifer nudged Eli before leaning in close to whisper in his ear. "Hey, so those are the tournament participants! That one is Jiren, he was the winner. Over there is Authur Pendragon, and next to him is Gogo Tamago, and..." His already reddened face deepened as she spoke in hushed tones, despite the subject matter having nothing to do with her being so close to him. His eyes darted toward the participants, trying to keep up with everything Jennifer had been saying. Her whispers came to a harsh stop when a man in an official looking blazer and necktie stepped up in front of the entrants. Despite his attempt at looking professional, he was wearing a pair of wind-pants and tennis shoes to accompany his upper outfit; business casual would have been a gross overstatement to describe his attire.
"Ahem, ah-ha-hem!" The man cleared his throat loudly to startle the masses and hush all dissonant voices. He bore a wide grin, and spread his arms wide as if to welcome everyone to the recognition ceremony. "Welcome, everyone, to the Recognition Ceremony!" His toothy smirk grew even wider still as he looked to the crowd. "You all know me, Mr. Al, the dean of Sports!" After having said this, he looked around as if to receive a massive amount of praise and applause; having received none, he drooped and groaned audibly. "Oh all right, I get it." As if two conflicting personalities resided within him, his energy level shot back up after the brief disappointment."Look, here at Horizon we keep things pretty loose, okay? No need to stand stuffy on principle! Each of these lovely students behind me are in the top of their respective classes, and made it to the tournament! How about we hear from each of them, huh?" With that, Mr. Al motioned to the small crowd behind him, ushering someone to step forward to deliver some sort of speech. It was clear to Eli from this display that Mr. Al was one for grandstanding, and if he was honest, it was a little hard to watch. Eli felt himself cringing a bit on the inside each time the man spoke; perhaps the tournament goers would not be so forced.
The bus would come to a stop shortly after the announcement that they were there. A sea of surging humanity could be seen cumulating more members; the green grass nearly covered in it's entirety with life. All of the dawn students would take in the view that is 'Horizon College' for the first time. Well, Almost all of the dawn students. Gogo, being from California, has seen Horizon college multiple times. Growing up and going to school in San Fransokyo, she was sought after by both Dusk, and Horizon University. Wanting to leave, she found Dawn University and headed there.
The dawn students would be escorted to the stage by an usher of sorts. Here, they would come face to face with the other Dusk and Horizon students. Immediately they would be met with daggers, particularly Jiren with him being the winner and all. Their anger is understandable. Majority of the tournament participants were in fact Dawn; Jiren winning the whole thing added even more salt in the wound. After minutes of silence and threatening gazes, the bunch would be forced to go out on stage.
"Look, here at Horizon we keep things pretty loose, okay? No need to stand stuffy on principle! Each of these lovely students behind me are in the top of their respective classes, and made it to the tournament! How about we hear from each of them, huh?"
A few seconds would go by before before anyone stepped up. Gogo would be the one to shatter the silence. Taking the microphone out of the his hand; she would be met with a slight contest from the dean.
"Whaddya wanna know? *Pop*"
W-Well! The Dean would yank the microphone out of Gogo's hand. Well for one! We would like to know your name young lady. Followed by your quirk, and then maybe a brief summary about yourself! The Dean would extend his hand forward and tilt the microphone forward for her to speak. Not appreciating him holding the mic for her, she simply snatched it back. A few students in the crowd would laugh as the Dean tried to grasp at the mic.
I think I can manage to hold the mic myself, Mr. Al. Gogo would let out a wink in the Deans direction, followed by a *click click* with her tongue. Several women in the audience let out some cheers. The Dean struggled to mask his frustration with an unconvincing smile.
Gogo would glance over the crowd swifty before she began to speak. My name is Gogo Tomago. And much like your Dean here, my ability is blowing smoke. The crowd would let out a thunderous clap with simultaneous laughter. Gogo would glance over at the Dean before continuing.
Gogo Tamago was certainly a character in person. As she took the mic from Mr. Al, Eli couldn't help but chuckle; although he respected the dean and his authority, Mr. Al was openly making a fool of himself, which warranted a little laugh at his expense. The Dawn student stood with a resolve, delivering her witty one liners with a cool attitude and captivating swagger. When she joked about her Quirk being 'blowing smoke,' Eli's interest piqued. Wonder what kinda hero that would make...? He openly wondered as to how her smoke would be useful in a heroic encounter, unable to fathom exactly the usefulness on his own imagination.
Jennifer was ecstatic watching Gogo, she was like some sort of young girl idolizing their favorite TV personality on a Saturday morning. It was a strange sight for Eli to see, having only just met Jennifer minutes prior, but it was a welcome expression. "She's just so cool. I'm sure if she was at full strength she would have been in the top winners of the tournament for sure!" Jennifer began to gush over Gogo and her ability, running off into a tangent of thoughts. Eli glazed over the ceremony, lost in his own mind. As different students took the stand to speak, Eli contemplated the level of his own strength, How well would I have done in that challenge? Could I have even made it to the first round of the tournament...? His pondering continued for a time, as the small celebration came to a close without his even noticing.
Mr. Al, finally glad to have his spotlight back, snatched the microphone from the last student to close the gathering. "Allllright students! Those were the tournament participants, we are so glad to have them here today! This official ceremony is now concluded, but surely these fine young men and women have a little time to mingle, yes?" Mr. Al turned to glare at Gogo over his shoulder, as if retaliating against her for the embarrassing moment he suffered earlier. "So come say hi to your Heroes-to-be!" With that final statement, Mr. Al turned off the microphone and quickly exited the premises.
Jennifer swiftly stood next to Eli, gripping her bag in one hand and Eli's arm with the other. "C'mon Eli! We've got to meet Gogo right now!" Eli almost lost balance as he was tugged forward down the concrete steps in a B-line for Gogo's direction. It couldn't have been any more than five seconds before the two youths had come to a halt directly in front of their target. Up close, Eli could smell a strong aura of bubblegum and some sort of perfume... it was oddly intoxicating. Jennifer didn't waste any time with introductions, curtly bowing to her idol. "H-hello there G-g-gogo! I'm J-jennifer and t-t-this is E-e-eli!" Eli found it odd that she was stuttering so suddenly, it was as if this one person had eroded all of Jennifer's composure simply by existing. Eli rubbed the back of his neck and waved toward Gogo with his other hand. "Hey there, Eli Thomas's the name. You really got to Mr. Al, ya know?" He chuckled with a wide grin, half referring to her comments and also thinking of Jennifer's newly found speech impediment.
The ceremony would carry on well after Gogo's speech. The order of the speakers would be random with the exception of Jiren, the tournament winner, speaking last to close out the ceremony. The crowd would give a round of applause as Gogo and the other participants began to leave the stage.
"Allllright students! Those were the tournament participants, we are so glad to have them here today! This official ceremony is now concluded, but surely these fine young men and women have a little time to mingle, yes?"
Each participant stopped in their tracks and turned back around to give forced smiles; Gogo's eyes locked with the Dean's as she turned. The Dawn, Horizon, and Dusk kids wanted to leave as quickly as possible. Seeing as they did not like each other, this ceremony was torture. The Dean would smirk in Gogo's direction before he himself took off.
"Just great..." Immediately they would be swarmed with students. Jiren would have the majority of fans, which made sense seeing as he was the winner. The first round exits, such as Gogo, got considerably less audience. This further drilled the fact that she lost, deeper into her head. Why would anyone want to meet a loser?
"H-hello there G-g-gogo! I'm J-jennifer and t-t-this is E-e-eli!"
Gogo jumped slightly on the inside as she was lost deep in thought. While her expression did not show it, she was actually a little happy someone was a fan of hers. Gogo glanced over to the boy standing next to her and made eye contact. This prompted him to speak.
"Hey there, Eli Thomas's the name. You really got to Mr. Al, ya know?" He chuckled with a wide grin. Gogo picked up on his country accent immediately.
Hey there. You guys wanna like...I dunno..take a picture with me or get my autograph? *Pop* I'm down to answer questions too if you got any for me. Gogo would turn her head slightly to the side to his a light tint of blush in her face. She had to play it cool, and appear even cooler. She would thrust her hands in her jacket pockets.
O-OH OF COURSE! Eli quick take our picture! Jennifer would rummage through her purse like a man possessed. Finally finding her phone, she would pull it out and hold it sky high as if it were the almighty master sword. The phone case would be bedazzled to form her first initial on the back. The excited girl would place the device into Eli's palm and take her place next to her idol.
Lets do thissss! She sang as she spoke. Her energy was contagious as Gogo began to get excited too for some reason. Without warning, Jennifer, would wrap her arms around Gogo's head before pulling her into her breast. Her lavender scent would dance under Gogo's nose; causing the latter to turn a crimson red. The difference in their heights would be made apparent as Jennifer had quite a few inches over Gogo.
Eli take pic!

Surprise would have been an understatement when describing the reaction of Jennifer after she was approached by Gogo Tamago, who so kindly asked the duo if they wanted 'a picture or autograph'. Eli was genuinely startled by the reaction; Jennifer didn't hesitate when offering Eli her bedazzled phone to take the picture for them. As Eli fiddled with the phone, awkwardly trying to figure out how to take a picture on a new device, Jennifer towered over Gogo, squeezing the Dawn student into a hug that looked certainly less than consensual. It was a strange sight, the purple-motif of a girl crunching Gogo into some sort of pose. "Eli take pic!" Jennifer shouted toward the young man, completely forgetting her conjunctions due to excitement.
Eli honorably accomplished the task, kindly and thoughtfully snapping a few different pictures in quick succession, which would give Jennifer a few to pick from. He smiled and handed the phone back to Jennifer, who greedily snatched it back as a mantis would snap at it's prey. She giggled to herself, treasuring the pictures on the phone and, at least for a moment, forgetting completely about Gogo in person. Eli, nowhere as distracted, turned to face the newcomer.
"Wow, okay then..." Eli responded to his new friend and her complete change of character. He shook it off; Gogo Tamago was standing in front of him, and he had a few questions. "I know this is sudden and you don't know me, but I wanted to ask you somethin'." Eli continued to smile, hoping Gogo wouldn't be alarmed by his proposition. "Ya see, I didn't get to see yer matches or the Sports Festival at all, so I was kinda thinkin'..." Eli trailed off, leaving a bit of silence before his question. Without really thinking much longer, he simply blurted his feelings out loud. "Well, do ya wanna fight?"
It took Eli several seconds to realize what he just asked Gogo. Here she was, a guest of Horizon College, at an event where she was being honored... and Eli was picking a fight. When he realized his brash tone, he backed up a set and set about to apologize. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean fight, really, I meant... well I wanna learn more about what makes someone a good Hero and how to become better, and I just thought..." Extremely rattled and upset, he put a hand on his face in shame, a poor attempt to hide his emotional state. Eli couldn't help but feel that since he had made a new friend today, he had become a little too confident. Great, she's gunna hate me and I just met her... Thankfully, Jennifer took this time to interject herself back into the conversation. She shook herself free of the shining stars in her eyes and addressed Eli's jumbled mess of a request. "I think what Eli is trying to say is he'd like to see your Quirk in action. I just met him myself, but the kid seems dedicated to his education," Jennifer tossed a small wink Eli's way, hoping to cheer him up a little. This, of course, simply added another layer of discomfort to his current mood.
Gogo gave an almost awkward smile to the camera as Eli took the shots. As he took the last pic, Jennifer released the smaller statured girl, and rushed over to view the pictures Eli had taken. Gogo, whose face was still warm from her chest, let out a sigh of relief. While she enjoyed the smell of her lavender, she also enjoyed her personal space.
"I know this is sudden and you don't know me, but I wanted to ask you somethin'."
Gogo quickly snapped out of her brief thought. What was he going to ask her? An autograph? To follow him on social media? What was he going to ask that required them to be close?
"Ya see, I didn't get to see yer matches or the Sports Festival at all, so I was kinda thinkin'..."
Oh no! He's gonna ask to see my match. " Gogo became a little concerned that he would see her loss and stop being a fan. The silence that came after the question made Gogo slightly anxious.
"Well, do ya wanna fight?"
Huh? Gogo's head turned to the side as her face contorted into that of confusion.
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean fight, really, I meant... well I wanna learn more about what makes someone a good Hero and how to become better, and I just thought..."
"I think what Eli is trying to say is he'd like to see your Quirk in action. I just met him myself, but the kid seems dedicated to his education,"
What it takes to be a hero huh? As if she would know. Since she lost to hive mind, she had been asking herself that same question. Was she even fit to be a hero? Ever since that loss she had been feeling more and more like she was destined for a sidekick role.
Sure. Lets fight! But first let's go somewhere private. Show me to Horizons training facility, Eli.

"Sure. Lets fight! But first let's go somewhere private. Show me to Horizons training facility, Eli." Eli was thrilled to hear those words, as if his anxiety had spirited away with Gogo's agreement. He immediately clapped his hands together with enthusiasm, an outspread smile forming quickly; Eli couldn't believe she would agree to his request so easily! Often in his youth, people around him would view his excitement as rude and discourteous, as if he had little sense of place or timing. Eli was simply to the point, wanting to continually learn and push himself to new boundaries. It was nice to be in the presence with someone who thought similarly!
Complying to Gogo's suggestion, Eli didn't hesitate: he turned to Jennifer, the resident upperclassman, to direct them. Jennifer, unsure exactly what a silent stare and smile toward her meant, raised a finger to point at herself. "Me?" Eli nodded insistently, without explaining his intention. She should understand with the context of the conversation, Eli needed not clarify. Jennifer's face crumpled in confusion for a minute, before finally having that 'Aha!' moment. She pounded down a fist into an open palm, motioning that she understood. "I see, you don't know where the training facilities are yet, since you're new, right Eli?" Eli, now in a hurry to get to the exercise, grabbed Jennifer's arm and started to tug her along, stamping his feet as he drug the company into a random direction. "Oh, uh, wait! You're going the wrong way...!"
---
Horizon College, though the number two school for Heroes, had an impressive training ground; there were several buildings that lined several hundred meters of property, along with just as many fenced and gated off fields designed for different terrains. Jennifer, now released from the iron grip of Eli Thomas, was leading the troupe to an outdoor arena that was designed to appear as a mountainous location. There were several peaks and valleys of red rock, varying heights and gorges, along with a few small caves and caverns. Jennifer motioned toward this training ground in particular as the group came to a coast. "I think this area would be a good test for Gogo, and well, I don't know your Quirk Eli so..." Jennifer confessed, focused mostly on Gogo and her splendor.
Eli, certainly more focused than his newfound companion, tightened the laces on his shoes and mentally prepared. He didn't have his costume or equipment with him, so this would be a test of Quirk versus Quirk, skill versus skill. Eli liked it that way, it was a good way to even the field. "Okay, now that we're here... what are we gonna do? How is this goin' down?" Eli emphasized his readiness by performing a few leg stretches, loosening up for whatever it was Gogo was going to throw his way.
Gogo would follow Jennifer to the Horizon training grounds. The training ground they arrived at would be a cave of sorts outside. Looking around the environment, Gogo would witness multiple spectators had arrived to view their battle. With Eli asking as publicly as he did, it came as no surprise to her people followed them.
"I think this area would be a good test for Gogo, and well, I don't know your Quirk Eli so..."
Gogo's eyes widened at this comment. It dawned on her that she also did not know of his quirk; This lack of information gave him the advantage in a battle. This was good. In the field popular heroes have their quirks known. Their quirks are talked about on television, online forums, and even barbershops. This would be the perfect simulation for Gogo.
"Okay, now that we're here... what are we gonna do? How is this goin' down?"
"Hey Jennifer, do you have a key chain?"
"I think so...Ah here!" Jennifer would pull a key chain out of her bag and toss it to Gogo. Taking the chain, she would hook it in a loop on her pants. Since they would not have an actual flag on hand, this key chain would have to suffice.
You've got 3 minutes to save this civilian I've got captured. The civilian is obviously the key chain around my waist.
Gogo would walk back a few meters, thus making the total distance between the two a total of 5 meters. She would smirk at Eli before taking a generic stance. Legs spread slightly more than shoulder width apart, both arms raised with her fists balled up.
"Jennifer please start a timer on your phone. As soon as Eli moves, we begin"

"You've got 3 minutes to save this civilian I've got captured. The civilian is obviously the key chain around my waist." Gogo took her stance, and Eli began to calculate the distance and speed he could generate by pushing off of a nearby rock. Whew, only 3 minutes? Not much time... what would be better, to try and make a mad dash, or maybe... Eli postulated several paths, but before he took one minor movement he realized a key factor in this competition: Gogo didn't know his Quirk! Eli didn't know how exactly her Quirk worked either, but he knew it had something to do with smoke. Whatever it is, it will mask my vision... so I have to be fast. After a few seconds, he heard Gogo speak to Jennifer to set the timer on her phone, and that the competition would begin when Eli made his first movement. Good, that means I can think for another second or two...
Eli took a second to make note of their immediate surroundings, noticing three different scenarios to pursue Gogo: the east, the north, and the west. Of course, Eli was blocking off the south, but the south was the exit of the arena regardless. To the east there was a large outcropping of rock, a somewhat small mountain with a jagged peak climbing into the sky. It was large enough to block out the majority of a nearby building from sight. To the north was a grouping of plateaus, flat-topped rock formations with wide crevasses between each plateau. The crevasses created a labyrinth of twists and turns, but the plateaus created an easy way to spot anyone running through them from above, if need be. Lastly, the west was a series of hills, much smaller than the mountains but only slightly less tall than the plateaus. Within many of the hills there were tunnels that likely dug underground and were interconnected to other hills. This avenue would be the most troublesome if Gogo were to choose it as an escape route; Eli would have to improvise another plan of attack should she flee into a tunnel.
Having decided to hide his Quirk for now and roughly finished thinking his options through, Eli set his mind solid as steel, and launched himself forward into a dash to his target.
02:59
The target was clear, Eli was to grab the key-chain from Gogo's hip. He was sure she would be up to something, but until he got close enough to grab the item, there was no way to guess her movements. She was nearly 5 meters away before Eli began to run, so it only took a few seconds for him to get to her position with a full sprint. As he closed in on Gogo, Eli reached out his right hand toward her hip, nearly diving forward to snatch the 'civilian.' "Hah, yer gunna make this too easy!" Eli taunted, becoming too confident in his ability before the test had even begun.
Gogo watched as Eli stood still for a moment; the country boy was clearly trying to formulate a plan. Gogo herself had no plan other than "do not get caught." Without further delay, Eli was off. The boy would make a mad dash towards Gogo and that would give the girl much needed information.
"He's dashing at me so that means his quirk is close range. He at least knows about my quirk so getting close would be the opposite of what he should be doing. That means he has no way of preforming long range attacks. However he could very be saving up a ranged quirk to either: A, Throw me off. Or B, Keep the civilian he's trying to save safe. The chances of a first year thinking that way with such little time to work with is very slim.
Gogo would stick to this hunch of hers that he had a close combat quirk, and would make sure to keep this in mind with every action she made from this point on. Her first action would be to leap backwards, thus maintaining the new distance between the two, while simultaneously inhaling. After a split second of holding her breath, she would release a ball of smoke. This attack would be aimed at Eli's feet and explode immediately in contact with the ground.
Her next action would be to circle around while simultaneously going backward, moving in an arc. This would happen just as the smoke raised enough to obscure Eli's vision from her previous location. She would be just outside of the smoke, so she would be well outside of it, allowing her to see.
Mere moments after Eli began his advance, Gogo performed a beautiful moonsault back flip, and strangely to Eli, inhaled deeply as she was floating through the air. Eli was more than impressed by her athletic ability; her technique was impeccable, like something out of a textbook. Is this something she learned from Dawn...? Eli couldn't help but wonder the differences mid-challenge, but he quickly shook himself from distractions. This was about learning how to be a better Hero, and his task currently was to capture the civilian.
02:53
Soon after landing, Gogo launched a projectile at Eli's feet at a very high speed. Eli reflexively crossed his arms in an X formation, throwing up an impromptu defense; though Eli should have expected this, he was caught off guard when the projectile crashed into the red earth and burst into a massive plume of smoke. The cloud rapidly expanded, obscuring not only Eli's vision but also disorienting his other senses. Vapor snaked its way into Eli's nostrils, forcing him to choke and cough uncontrollably. His eyes began to flood with fluid, as streams of tears began to streak down his cheeks. This is her smoke, I didn't expect it to be so volatile!
02:49
Struggling to breathe through the smoke, Eli held the air in his lungs and prevented any more irritation through his eyes by squinting heavily. One of his arms swept across his face to wipe the signs of weakness, and the other covered his mouth and nose to provide a primitive amount of protection to further harm. Alright, Eli, you've got to get out of this cloud and find her. Think... Eli adopted a squatting stance, both legs spread at a ninety degree angle, and let his hand rest on the ground beneath him between his knees. His hand moved on instinct, spreading from a fist into a wide palm, fingers stretching as far apart as possible. He needed this first use of his Quirk to be small and calculated. Just enough to get a glimpse of her location... Eli calculated an amount of force required to lift him several meters high, and pushed.
Eli shot upward with a stable thrust, still posed in a squat as he swiftly rose above the smoke cloud. As he traveled upward, the draft of wind from his quick movement pulled the smoke nearby upward as well, causing a bit of a turbulence in the cloud. Swirls of smoke billowed beneath him, making the appearance similar to a billow agitating a small fireplace. When Eli was clear of the fog, he blinked rapidly to locate his target. Hm... not to the right... not the- Ah! There she is. Eli found Gogo casually observing her obstruction, presumably sure of herself. Eli couldn't help but grin at this, and let himself begin the plummet back into the cloud. Before reaching the ground, he pushed lightly, slowing his descent.

Eli knew what direction she was in, and had somewhat of an advantage as her own distraction was covering his Quirk usage. Eli propped himself up against a nearby rock opposite of Gogo's location, and touched the rock with his left hand. His new anchor acquired, Eli shielded his mouth and nose with the crook of his right elbow. Assured he was going the right direction, he pushed himself out of the cloud and soared across the expanse. Having exited her trap, he extended his right arm to reach for the 'civilian'. "Yer mine!" Eli yelled, in part to the target but also to Gogo. A Hero has nothing to prove, but a Hero -in-training has much.

Gogo stood outside of the smoke's range as she waited for Eli to make a move. Gogo was pretty sure there was no way for him to get out of there, however, she waited patiently since she still did not know of his quirk. As she stood there triumphantly, she would get her next hint as to what Eli is capable of. A line of smoke dragged through the sky, following Eli as he ascended above the soot colored cloud. For a moment it looked as if he was being propelled by the smoke itself.
He probably needed a breath of fresh air. Clearly his ability has something to do with leaping, flying, or propelling himself maybe. Maybe his quirk just allows him to leap buildings in a single bound as a byproduct. Annnnd now he's falling. That rules out flying i guess. *pop*
With barely a second of time passing, Eli's next move was made. He would come soaring out of cloud towards Gogo's Destination.
He wasn't trying to get fresh air! He was searching for me using those few moments of him not being in the smoke. He's pretty clever for a first year.
Without any hesitation, Gogo's body acted on it's own. She would sidestep to Eli's right right, and simultaneously grab his right wrist with her right hand. She would begin to move her right hand downwards as she pivoted on her right foot. Lifting her left leg to bring it over Eli's back, as she drove her left forearm into the back of his neck. If this action was successful, she would find herself mounting Eli and digging his face into the ground below. The goal of this is to restrain him and Eat up time.

A devilish grin crept across Eli's face as he was propelled forward with momentum; he was certain of his victory within seconds. Is this all it takes to be a finalist in the Sports Festival? Maybe I would be fit to participate after all... Eli's thoughts trailed off as the target grew closer and closer: five meters, three, inches. Suddenly and unexpectedly for Eli, his paradigm was forcibly shifted. Eli felt a gentle touch on his arm as he was rotated away from Gogo's hip. A swift, dull thud collided with the back of Eli's head, throwing him face-first into the dirt; his speed was maintained up until the second he hit the ground, as Eli realized he should stop pushing so he didn't injure himself in the process. Now in contact with mother Terra, and Gogo seated upon his back like some sort of twisted Mountie, Eli grinded to a slow and painful halt.

Pain surged through Eli's face and head, throbbing as blood began to rush to the affected area in an attempt at recovery. With the weight being pressed upon his neck, keeping his chin to the ground, Eli was unable to speak and complain about the amount of force used in a friendly competition, which was probably for the best. Eli's left arm was free, but despite his struggling and squirming, he was unable to coil his wrist into a position where he could grasp the key chain. As several seconds passed, Eli began to curse himself for wasting so much time caught in Gogo's hold. Dang, gotta get out of this some way...

Realizing his physical attempts of escaping were in vain, Eli decided to go ahead and utilize his Quirk to free himself. He rocked his body back and forth, slinking his hands underneath his body to contact the ground beneath his center of mass. Eli focused on his breathing while planning a mental calculation of moves before activating his Vectors; Gogo would have no idea what he was up to, so he had to make this attempt count. He sat for several seconds, unmoving, hoping to give her enough time to let any guard she had put up release.
When enough moments had passed, Eli pushed with great force, launching the two of them into the sky above and disengaging from Gogo's restriction. Eli immediately took action, twisting his body mid push to reverse the hold upon him and grab Gogo's left wrist, pulling her around his hip to equalize positioning. He then tugged tightly upon her arm, hoping to twist her shoulder enough that he could control her body's forward facing back toward the ground. The technique was a simple behind the back wrist lock, and with enough pressure could control most movement of the upper torso. As soon as he had Gogo in position beneath him, Eli would reverse his push into a strong pull, bringing the two of them plummeting toward the ground below. As they dove, Eli would bring his knees forward to rest upon Gogo's back, so that on impact she would be pinned to the earth by his full body weight. This entire sequence of events was complex, but a costly maneuver when Jennifer would check her phone's timer once more.
