“ANNND That was House of Gold by 21 guns! Go ahead and give it up to that group! Only on Streetz Radio!”
It was time for Mob to wake up, get dressed, brush his teeth, and continue training to be a hero. After his initial training with Professor Dupe and ranking up to acquire his provisional hero license, Mob as well as his mentor wished for him to acquire more real-life experience through patrolling, apprehending villains, and sparring with other classmates to gain versatile knowledge and deal with combat situations where everything can be considered a variable.
“I wonder what we are going to do today.”
“Let us see boy, your teacher has guided you on the right path so far, check to see if you have any combat or sparring assignments. We need to get you stronger and to be able to think of things on the fly, otherwise your indecisiveness or carelessness may well cost you your life, and the lives of others.”, a voice in Mob’s head said.
Mob checked his phone and his assignments to see there was any patrolling today. Luckily for him, there were none. However, there was a sparring assignment sent to him which instructed him to move to sparring area at Dawn University to spar with a fellow student.
Asahi took his time to get out of bed. A long day awaited him, full of interesting missions to complete and trainings to undergo. Under normal circumstances, this scenario would have the man originating from Wakanda ready three hours in advance out of sheer excitement yet today just wasn’t one of those days. He had been tossing and turning all night, his mind racing through bad nightmares. They all had a theme to them; Leona, Asahi’s mother, and her battle to break free from the Lucas Family’s clutches. Despite the efforts of the Government to rescue the legendary hero, no real progress had taken place so far and the trace was starting to get blurry. “Soon,” he feared, “it will all be lost.” Finally mustering the required strength to crawl out of bed, he took a quick cold shower to get his mind focused again. Changing into his hero costume instead of his civilian attire, he proceeded to leave the house. Asahi’s presence was required at Dawn University’s ground for auxiliary classes to make up for his missed school year after his mother’s abduction and his father’s death. The only reason Asahi was attending, though, was because he really needed something to hit.
Mob entered the sparring area and was ready for action. He proceeded to wait a while for his sparring partner.
"I wonder who it's going to be?"
"You never know boy, these lands are vast with endless possibilities so one is never able to accurately deduct their opponent. Sure you can put them in categories or general stereotypes. But while that can be a triumphant advantage it can also prove to be a fatal flaw with your plans. Do not let your guard down for anyone and always try to stay prepared with quick wits for everything." a voice in Mob's head said.
"Understood"
After waiting a little longer Mob heard footsteps in the distance and was met with Asahi, a fellow African American friend and participant in the Sports Festival. It was he who was able to get in the finals while Mob was not so Mob was ready to show him what he was made of. However, the way he walked and acted Mob felt something was amiss about his fellow hero so he would attempt to talk to him before the session began.
"Hey bro wassup! You did great in the Sports Festival a while back. How's everything been?"
Mob would say as he put his hand out to dap up Asahi(for those who don't understand what dap up means, u can ask me some other time).
Asahi arrived at the sparring grounds, ready to test his newfound strength out. The sun-themed hero prayed his opponent was stronger than he was, for it had been a while since he last let himself go all out. Entering into the building, a quick turn of his head allowed him to scope the entirety of the building identifying a single entity present; Mob, a fellow Dawn University student that had taken part in the Sports Festival and who possessed a terrifying telepathic quirk if his memory served him right. “This might not be so dull after all,” Asahi commented to himself.
Mob was a more advanced student and belonged to class A whereas Antares was a member of class B. Dupe, a teacher at Dawn, had taken Mob under his wing and trained him under rigorous methods. How big was the gap between Asahi, a being of high potential but virtually no proper training regimen, and Mob, a being of equally high potential but a full-fledged student under a certified professor? A small smile broke into Asahi’s ominous face. “I can’t wait to find out”.
Mob advanced towards Antares, beaming. Asahi proceeded to greet him back, extending his right hand for a shake. “I’ve been better. Heard we’re supposed to duke it out today, huh? I could really use the practice."
The radiance from his fellow student always shined brightly, as Mob almost felt slight discomfort in his eyes as one would if they tried to stare towards the sun. Mob would shake the extended hand of his fellow classmate and remembered his fellow classmate possess a powerful quirk which allowed him to have immense brightness and heat, evidenced by the time he burned the forest down. “Yeah man, it seems we’ve both advanced and learned a lot throughout this time, let’s give it our best shot!”, as Mob would stop shaking hands.
Walking back to his position Mob would finally prepare for what is to come.
“Man, I’m excited! This is about to be an excellent sparring match. And I’ve been wanting to fight someone with a cool quirk anyways!”, Mob thought to himself “Don’t get excited and forget your caution boy. Treat him as an enemy and focus your mind for battle while using this as experience for your future battles. This experience will serve as the type of battles in which you encounter an enemy multiple time and might have basic knowledge to their abilities, like that Lucas family girl or that cybernetic swordsman.”
“Understood, now it’s time to start an excellent battle.”, Mob would say out loud from his position.
“I wouldn’t really categorize my quirk as cool, per se.”
Asahi’s declaration punctuated the conversation, leading to the commencement of the training spar. It only took some concentration for his corona to disperse throughout his entire body, enveloping his body and charring the earth under his feet. The temperature of the room rose incredibly fast as the young Wakandan Prince turned into a living, walking sun. “May the strongest Hero win.”
In the blink of an eye, Antares took the air where he held an advantage. His first attack came from focusing his powers in his hands into a beam of fire directed at Mob. Asahi was aware of the latter’s strong mental powers and he was expecting him to brush off his attack rather easily, too, but he needed to see it all the same. This would be a battle of resistance and gauging out the depth of Mob’s control over his quirk and how much strain it put onto his body could prove crucial during the last stages of the fight.
“As far as I remember, Mob struggled with the drawbacks of his quirk. The best course of action I can take, then, is to keep on adding pressure!”
“Whew, man why didn’t bring my sunscreen?”, Mob complained.
He watched as Asahi’s quirk got to work, rising the temperature and slightly altering the environment fire effects while the fellow student felt like an actual sun. Luckily there was no forest this time, however Mob would not falter. He was determined to show the fruits of his training and bring pride to his mentor’s name.
“Boy do not lose focus; your time starts now!”, the voice in Mob's head said.
As Mob watched the boy rise into the air, he would focus his mind activating his mental focus to dial in at all the details of his opponent. He then witnessed his opponent focusing a charged beam of fire in his hand and sent it towards Mob however Mob spoke. “I see you have gotten stronger”, activating his newly improved free form telekinetic technique which would create a huge dome around himself followed by flying to the right to dodge the blast and then up in the air to face the student.
“But I have gotten stronger too, and I have learned how to completely eliminate the strain caused by constantly passive techniques which was killing me last time”, as Mob showed no signs of the tiredness that he used to show
“And now I can do stuff like this”, firing a speedy invisible projectile at the classmate’s stomach by pointing his finger at the student. Should the student not be trained enough to track the projectile and be inside Mob's dome, he would be slightly injured by the attack.
Asahi whistled to a tune of surprise. He had expected some growth from Mob, but actually deflecting his attack without so much as sparing a second thought about it seemed preposterous. Antares scratched the back of his head with his right hand and rose his left hand into the air as if surrendering. “I did not presume to end our little battle with such feeble attacks but to dismiss them sparing the same level of effort as if batting away a fly? ”
A loud chuckle ringed throughout the arena. “You hurt my feelings.” Naturally, the laughter didn’t persist for long. Mob proceeded to go into a more offensive stance, flying into the air before pointing a single finger at Asahi’s stomach. To an outsider, it could have easily been some form of jest between friends, a digit pretending to be a gun. However, to Antares trained eye, what was about to happen was incredibly easy to read and thus he attempted to brace for impact.
He felt the impact of the projectile hurl him at the closest well despite never perceiving the attack, where his crash dented the wall into a small crater. Getting back up and into the air, the time for jokes was over. “Time to take this seriously, then.”
“Oh my god! I really have acquired more strength!”, as Mob thought to himself while he tried to keep a cool pose and demeanor to his classmate so as to not give away his surprise.
“Yes, boy you have made sure to train hard and received training from your instructor. You will find that some people have not trained as much as you but in the same sense there are people have trained and some who have trained harder than you so do not be complacent.”, the voice inside Mob's head would tell him.
“Of course.”
Mob watched as his fellow student was impacted by the attack and hurled to the wall. “Ah maybe he couldn’t see that attack” “In a real-life battle situation, it is not time for you to ease up on the situation or hold back. Add on the pressure!” “Alright Asashi I agree let us get a more serious with this match. I feel you have more depth to your power that you might be hiding as so do I, so will come at you again.”
Mob would open both his hands and telekinetically lift two boulders to propel them towards the student. One from the left side and one from the right side he would attack the student simultaneously to add more pressure.
“Mob was just testing my responses and I couldn’t even react to his attack. That is a testament to how much I need to improve in this arduous path to become the best hero of all time.” Two large boulders seemingly propelled themselves with no outside help towards Asahi, each rock honing in from opposing sides. Despite the speed of the projectiles, the sun themed hero remained in control of his emotions and patiently searched through all available defensive options for this offense. Upon pinpointing the one with the least risk and highest reward, he proceeded to speak.
“They say failure is the greatest teacher and danger the best opportunity to learn. Let this be the greatest class, then.”
With a single, fluid movement Antares hovered backwards allowing the boulders to crash into each other whilst simultaneously releasing a huge blast of solar energy at them. The result was a thunderous explosion that caused ignited debris to shower the entirety of the battle field in Mob’s direction. Using the rain and dust as a distraction, Asahi flew back into the ground albeit never actually landing and moved towards Mob at rapid speeds. “I wonder if there is a limit to what his telepathic powers can move”
“Oh man this is going to be great! Let’s see what else is going to happen.”
Mob watched as Asashi looked to each side as he saw both boulders. However, Mob observed a quick movement as Asahi hovered back faster than Mob could halt the boulder which caused them to crash within each other. “Man, that looked wavy. Now I got to un-piece these boulders or try to shoot them at the dude.” “Do something boy!” “Huh?”
Suddenly the two boulders Mob was planning to use erupted into fiery debris blast towards Mob
“Oh shiiiitttt! I gotta move!”
Mob flew back in an upwards angle to avoid the blast while telekinetically shielding himself from any remaining debris. Mob held his hand ready to deliver another wave of attacks however behind the debris no one was to be found. Mob quickly looked around his surroundings and located the young savvy student on the ground looking at him. “You messed up boy. He could’ve attacked in your confusion. You must prepare to anticipate his attacks.”
“I know how I can do that.”
Mob would lock his eyes towards his opponent and activate his mind reading technique. This allowed him to anticipate the young student’s attacks without alerting the student that his mind being read. Mob waved his hand as to beckon the student to come and attack Mob. “Let’s try something different.”
“Tsk.” Mob was a sly fighter but his versatility seemed to have no limitations. With as little as a telepathic maneuver, Asahi’s entire plan of attack was dismantled and he was forced back into an unfavorable position; Mob now held the higher ground and Antares position had been pinpointed by his opponent.
Yet not all was in vain. In what Asahi guessed was an attempt to focus to generate a telepathic blast, his eyes met Mob’s and an inner light bulb inside him switched on. Literally.
The body of the young hero started irradiating light at an incredible rate and before the long the strong sun rays swarmed the entirety of the field, damaging any unprepared retinas. Unbeknownst to Asahi, this all happened right before Mob could establish a strong hold over his mind.
“Let’s see how you like this!”
Using the cover of his wave of light, Asahi proceeded to launch 3 fire blasts at his opponent. One of the fireballs was considerably larger and more powerful than the other two and it would travel in a straight path towards the psychic. The other two blasts were slightly smaller but traveled in an arc, one from the left and another from the right. The big idea was that if Mob was indeed blinded, the heat from the bigger fireball would make his protective instincts kick in - but that same heat would mask the presence of the other two blasts that were honing in. “Please let this triple-prong attack work!”
Mob took pride into his mind reading technique. It allowed him to not only predict the attacks of his opponent’s but also enable to understand information from the opponent depending on what Mob was looking for.
“Man, I love using this technique, it’s lit.”
“It is probably not as good as you think boy, do not assume that it will totally guarantee a win. The important thing is not knowing or anticipating the attacks of your opponent, but have the best tools, speed, and experience enough to react in the situation.”
“Yeah, so let’s see what happening…What?”
Suddenly, a bright flash was emanated from his opponent which covered the student on the ground.
“See this is what I was trying to tell you. React!!!!”
Mob brandished his Mask 2K19 from his costume which covered his eyes from the bright flash and then saw three fiery blasts advancing towards him at high speeds. Mob quickly spawned 2 orbital field shields and used earth to protect him but he wouldn’t leave unscathed. The shields helped to mitigate most of the vital damage but his clothes appeared slightly tattered and there was blast damage evident on his body as his arms felt slightly bruised.
“I see. Well…time to get more activated.”
Mob would activate his mental focus and since he was looking at the opponent his mind reading would trigger once more, this time unabated. He would then land on the ground 6 meters away from Asahi.
“Fine I’ll show you what I couldn’t do to those robots.”
Flicking his left finger up, Mob would send one 1 meter boulder towards asahi without blocking Mob's sight of view.
A smug, diligent grin sprayed across Asahi’s face. His offensive scheme had proven successful and its wake left Mob with a slightly bruised body. “All of that and only jagged clothes to show for it. You are one tough fella, you know that right?”
It seemed he had finally managed to piss Mob off enough to get completely serious, for a small cloud of telepathic energy started dancing around the perimeter of his body. The energy was overflowing, allowing Mob to displace a boulder in Asahi’s direction with the mere flick of a finger. This time the wakandan opted for an evasive action, sidestepping the rock before immediately starting towards Mob. “I wanna know, my friend - can you keep up that concentration while trading blows with a walking sun?”
As soon as he was within range the gravitational aspect of sun bloomer kicked in, forcing his opponent to remain within close distance of him. Taking this opportunity, Asahi elevated the output levels of his body generating a heat effect comparable to that of being stranded in a desert. His experience in close quarters was limited so far but he had already developed a strong feel for it; it would become the foundation for his future arsenal, after all.
Whew that first blast still had Mob heated, literally. Mob could feel the singes all over his arm but aye it was training and Mob enjoyed it. Just as he was about to do something Mob had a brief thought come through his mind as he was scanning Asahi’s mind. It came as a flash and Mob pictured the top 10 hero Leona in his mind.
“Oh, right isn’t that Asahi’s mom? I feel horrible about what happened. We had the opportunity to save her and we couldn't. Damn”, Mob thought
Along with this came a swell of emotions that Mob could feel. Sadness, Anger, Abandonment, Pain, and Loss. Another flashback came showing Asashi talking to government officials who although tried to reassure the student that they would find his mother, the looks on their faces and confidence did not offer much support or appear reassuring. Along with this flashback was the image of a man who Asahi referred to as dad and his image of death which also deeply saddened the student. “Wow. Has he been fighting me with such a great burden this whole time?”, Mob thought
“Snap out of it boy! You’re still in a fight!”
Mob awoke from his trance to find himself within the vicinity of what felt like a desert and being pulled in. This caused Mob to sweat and his body felt dry and tired, and his arms started to ache more. However, Mob was not about to give up now. Mob would release a dark blue beam from his eyes to attack Asahi’s mind which would serve to mentally lower the man’s strength after which Mob would telekinetically push the man away 7 meters by pushing his left hand foward. Panting he would say,
“I have to say Asahi. You are a strong man to be enduring what’s going on in your mind. I can see it. Have you talked to anyone about your problems yet?”
