“The concrete looks like it’s been dug up and turned-out; there are chunks of rubble and holes all over the place.”
“Looks like collateral damage caused by someone using their Quirk.”
“Oi, over here! I found the victims!”
“That settles it, this is definitely the place.”
“Ugh .. this is – who would do something like this?”
“It was probably some delinquent low-life who didn’t know how else to get his rocks off.”
“Their bodies .. they look like they’ve been carved up. Whatever happened here, it looks like it was one sided.”
“The path of rubble – it seems to lead towards that building on the corner of the block.”
“Look, there’s a gaping hole on one side of it. They may still be here.”
“Alright, I want you guys to start by cordoning off the area around the victims. The rest of you lot, surround the building and form a perimeter around the block. No one leaves this area without my permission. If that scum-bag’s still here, I want to personally escort him to his cell in Riker’s!”
""""""Yes, Sir!""""""
Sure enough, the police had finally arrived, and with a whole squad of cars no less. The blaring sound of their sirens echoed across the block, though they resounded particularly loudly within the abandoned building where Nike made his last stand against his mysterious opponent. The boys in blue had showed up in response to her prior phone call regarding the swift series of murders that previously occurred in the area.
This particular section of Flatbush was like an urban jungle - the backwoods of Brooklyn. It was the type of place where floodlights decorated every street corner and illuminated every inch of the project-houses in an effort to discourage and reduce criminality. They were made to represent the "omnipresence" of the police, and make people feel as if "someone was always watching." However the current circumstances proved them to be less than effective. For reasons like this, the boys always remained wary of this ill-reputed area; the fact that they showed up with an entire squad was a testament to that.
As instructed, the police promptly surrounded the corner building and cut off all possible escape routes. It was the dead of night and the area was so sparsely inhabited that you could very literally hear a pin drop. Therefore, the police were easily able to confirm the presence of someone (Nike and his foe) inside by the sounds of their conversation.
And with that, the on-site chief yelled to them inside:
“This is the police; we’ve got the place surrounded! Come out with your hands up! You’ve nowhere to run, so don’t try anything stupid!”
He demanded that Nike give himself up and surrender. Though Nike appeared to have given up and accepted his fate, he still didn’t immediately acquiesce. Instead, he remained inside and briefly spoke to his opponent:
“Well, aren’t they impatient. They arrived this late in the game and they want to start making demands?Pft, Lucky for them, I don’t have much fight left in me. However, before they take me away, I don’t think I ever got the chance to introduce myself – I’m Nike. What’s your name? I’ll make sure to commit it to memory.”
Nike realized that he had never gotten her name. However, as if not wanting to wait for him to depart the building, Nike could hear the clamoring of footsteps outside as a group of cops made their way around the building and tried to enter from his opponent’s side.

"Haha, why the scary look? There's not much I can do right now, is there? You don't have to hand me over, I'm not going anywhere. Besides, the fact that you called the cops in the first place means you don't have the authority to take me in. Relax, let the boys do their job."
Kuvira could feel several police cars come to a stop outside of the house. Seismic sense would not be needed to know of their presence however. The sirens screamed so loud that for a moment Kuvira could not hear herself think. The flashing red and blue lights danced through the windows of the house like some kind of light show at a party. However this was no party. Kuvira looked behind her to the open hole she had forgot to close behind her and noticed the bodies once more. Not a single vibration could be felt in that direction as they lay lifeless, their hearts long stopped beating. The gravity of the situation hit Kuvira once more, this was serious.
Kuvira could feel about ten officers surrounding the building in a hurry.
“This is the police; we’ve got the place surrounded! Come out with your hands up! You’ve nowhere to run, so don’t try anything stupid!”
Kuvira began to walk towards the hole she created earlier in the wall and tell the officers what has happened. The man began to speak however.
Kuvira stopped walking and turned to face the man that called himself "Nike". If Kuvira's memory served correctly, Nike was the goddess of victory. How ironic Kuvira thought to herself.
" My name is Kuvira, the great Uniter. I am a student at UA and I am going to become the new Symbol of Peace. You can remember me as the one that put you in prison."
Kuvira smirked at the man before grabbing a handful of her hair. It had become undone throughout the fight without her paying it any attention. She would begin to put it back into a ponytail so she could get it out of her face. She kept her head tilted up and her eyes locked on Nike.
"Say Nike, tell me how that quirk of yours works. I told you my name so that is only fair. Do not leave anything out either."
During the fight Kuvira had taken an interest in Nike's quirk. She also wanted to confirm if her hunches about his quirk were at all accurate.

"Hehhh. So you're a UA Student, and the future symbol of peace no less. Well then, you must be satisfied with yourself for having been able to start your Hero career off with my capture."
Nike said so exaggeratedly. It didn't come as a surprise that she was a Hero in training - he had suspected as much when she staunchly refused to back down and let him get away during their fight. It also explained why she called the authorities before confronting him; as a student, she didn't have the authority to make an arrest. Kuvira was her name, and it wasn't one he would soon forget, because unbeknownst to her, today's events would lead Nike to foster a powerful grudge. Petty as it may be, he would begin to look forward to the day where he could settle the score.
"Say Nike, tell me how that quirk of yours works. I told you my name so that is only fair. Do not leave anything out either."
"Huh?"
*What's she thinking, asking me out of the blue like that? She took it upon herself to answer me, I'm under no obligation to disadvantage myself by telling her. But ... well, this could be fun in its own way.*
On a whim, Nike decided to accommodate his foe's request to know more about his Quirk. However before he could speak, the police began entering the building and cautiously approached him. With their guns at the ready, one officer spoke up to confront him:
"I'm gonna have to cut you off right there! No more fun and games, you're coming with us!"
"Yeah, yeah. Relax, I don't plan on resisting. I no longer have the energy for that. Rather, I'm just answering her question as a show of respect to the one who defeated me. Wouldn't it also be advantageous to you, to know about my powers?"
Nike said so smugly, leaving the officer bereft of speech. Although he was visibly upset and unsettled by Nike's blatant disrespect and lack of concern, the officer allowed him to speak while they slowly moved in to make their arrest.
"Now then. If you hadn't already guessed from out fight earlier, I posses the ability of Permeation. I can freely phase my body back and forth between solidity and intangibility. But as you surmised earlier, this doesn't come without its own drawbacks. When I'm intangible, everything passes through my body - all forms of matter including things like light, sound, and air. As a result, phasing temporarily robs me of my sight, hearing, and even the ability to breathe. That's why I'm so worn out right now. Repeated use of my Quirk tends to drain me of my stamina."
Permeation was primarily defensive in nature. In that sense, it was vastly different from Kuvira's ability to manipulate the earth, which demonstrated greater destructive potential. Even with all that being said, there were several offensive applications to Nike's power, ones that he had consistently displayed in battle.
"Overall, it's not such a flashy ability. But even with that being said, there are still some interesting ways to use my powers, for example .."
A sadistic smile found its way across Nike's face. His tone suddenly changed as he spoke those last few words rather excitedly. The change in his disposition instilled a grave feeling of anxiety and apprehension within all of the surrounding officers, and for good reason, because as soon as he spoke those words, Nike leaped into action.
"...I can do things like this!"
As he had previously done in his fight with Kuvira, Nike proceeded to swiftly phase his body back and forth between solidity and intangibility in continuous flux. He was using his Full-Body Jigen-Tou technique, which had the ability to fracture and rupture the earth around him just by being in contact with it. As a result, the earth trembled and disrupted the balance of every cop in the room, causing each of them to tumble and fall over. As the earth shattered, Nike would immediately proceed by partially phasing one of his legs into a large, dislodged section of earth in front of him. By kicking forward and deactivating his Quirk with his leg still inside of it, Nike was able to eject and launch the rock away from him as if it were a projectile weapon. This was a technique named "Meteor," one that he often used in conjunction with the FBJT.
Without wasting a second afterwards, Nike would repeat the process and fire another boulder into the ceiling above, thus causing it to cave in and come crashing down on everyone in the room. The sound of the collapse created a ruckus that could be heard all across the block. Needless to say, the police officers posted up outside were riled into a frenzy when it happened. Nike would escape harm by himself by permeating his body and phasing into the ground. As it turned out, his cooperative attitude was no more than a ruse meant to lull his adversaries into a false sense of security. While he had been talking with them, Nike had slowly recovered some of his stamina to the point that he was able to fight once again. However, he was vastly outnumbered and therefore decided to create confusion and escape amidst the chaos.
Shortly after phasing into the ground, Nike would deactivate his Quirk while still submerged within the earth. As he could not overlap with any preexisting mass, this had the effect of "ejecting" his body back to the surface. Back at ground level, Nike revealed himself to have emerged in the middle of a jumbled group of police outside the building. He did so on purpose, so as to take advantage of the moment where they were still reeling from the previous shock. The process of ejection was stealthy and instantaneous, and would easily allow Nike to catch all of them off-guard. There were about six or seven of them, nothing he couldn't handle. Nike proceeded to unsheathe the twin swords Kartas & Grandia, which each sat at opposite sides of his waist. He followed by thrusting his right blade forward, stabbing it through the man in front of him in such a way that it penetrated his back and exited his chest. With his presence now discovered by the sound of the mans dying cries, the remainder of the police would cock their guns and open fire at him. However, with his ability of Permeation, their weapons didn't scare him in the slightest.
To defend himself, Nike would permeate his body in order to phase through their attacks. He would do all of this while repeatedly partially permeating into the ground and instantly ejecting his body to propel himself like a projectile. This allowed him to weave through the crowd of officers and their patrol cars. Meanwhile, in those very brief seconds where he would solidify, Nike would swiftly swing his swords back and forth, carving through and dispatching all of the police in his way. The surviving officers struggled to defeat him, but their efforts were all in vain. They emptied their clips, but Nike was able to phase through all of their bullets.
In that moment where they had to break to reload, Nike would use his FBJT technique for the last time to destroy a portion of the surrounding earth. He immediately followed this by using Meteor to kick another boulder out of the ground and towards the last two of the officers. It would fly and hit the remaining police head-on, crushing them with its weight before impacting and crushing the patrol car stationed behind them. And with that, all of the cops were defeated.
At that moment, Nike turned tail and made his escape. Despite the amount of officers, Nike was able to make quick work of them and escape within under a minute. After battling Kuvira for as long as he did, Nike knew that the collapse of the building was only enough to stall her. Rather than to stick around and wait for her to re-emerge from the rubble in that room, Nike took the chance to run away. Live to fight another day, as the old adage goes. He escaped at full speed by using a unique walking technique that allowed him to urn his body into a projectile by repeatedly ejecting himself with each step he took. This allowed Nike to traverse greater distances in a shorter amount of time, making it easy to shake off any straggling pursuers he might have.

"...I can do things like this!"
As he had previously done in his fight with Kuvira, he began to phase his body back and forth causing the ground below Kuvira and the officers to rupture, knocking them off balance. Kuvira however would maintain her own balance by shuffling her feet to keep standing. Kuvira should have known better to leave this man conscious. Without hesitation the man launched a large chunk of earth towards Kuvira and the officers, to which she would respond by extending her hand forwards and punching the rock, with the help of her Earthbending, to break it into hundreds of smaller chunks. Kuvira had enough of this man and decided to put him down right here but before she could do so, Nike sent another chunk of earth into the ceiling and that would cause the unstable house to begin to fall. Kuvira had the choice of either taking down Nike or saving the cops that were powerless to defend themselves in this situation. Of course she chose the latter.
Without hesitation Kuvira bended the earth armor that she wore into a wall, which she held above her and the officers to protect them from the falling debris. She would simultaneously stomp the ground below and create an earth tunnel causing the officers to fall below with her as well. The earth wall she made from her armor would serve as a top to the hole she made and protect them further from the debris. Before she fell underground she would see Nike for a brief moment, smiling.
Kuvira would walk over to one of the officers and grab the flashlight that he carried at his waist, before she used that same flashlight to illuminate the underground pathway that she had just created. Kuvira would continue to dig out a tunnel way for the officers to get back to their cars and partners.
As they emerged they would see the bodies of their comrades on the ground, lifeless.
For the second time today, Kuvira, failed someone. She could feel her chest tighten as she looked at the bodies of the men bleed out. Their deaths slow and painful just like the men earlier. Kuvira felt sick to her stomach. She wanted to throw up. She wanted to scream. She wanted to find Nike and make him pay for what he had done. A few of the alive officers thanked Kuvira for saving them while the others called in what had happened, before coming and questioning Kuvira herself to get her side of the story.
As Kuvira answered the men's questions her body began to tremble with anger. She briefly thought of the families that those officers had as ambulance arrived and placed sheets over their bodies. The area would quickly be covered in yellow caution tape and a crowd would have formed around the area. If only Kuvira could have been faster to get to those men earlier. If only she could have finished Nike off when she had the chance. If only she were stronger. Kuvira vowed to find the man that called himself Nike someday and bring him to justice.
